Prep Redzone Louisiana reached out to coaches and managers around the state for a few of their top players to watch in the first month or so of action.
Here are a handful of under-the-radar Baton Rouge prospects from the BootBoyz, a first-year program providing another outlet for athletes in the Capital City area.
Jacob Dupree — 5-10, 170 ATH — Dunham (2023)
The rising senior missed half of last season to injury, but showed sharp route-running, sure hands and willing blocking in the highlights he provided his Tigers as part of the program’s strong 2023 class. Dupree has reportedly been one of the BootBoyz’s top performers this spring, including some nice leaping receptions, as he works toward a big senior season making up for lost time.
Sedrick Knight Sedrick Knight 6'1" | 175 lbs | DB Zachary | 2023 LA — 6-1, 175 DB — Zachary (2023)
The member of the Broncos’ Class 5A state championship team boasts good size, length and athleticism with a listed 4.4-second 40-yard dash, 38-inch vertical and 10-foot broad jump and has put in work this offseason continuing to develop and fine-tune his craft.
Covanta Milligan Covanta Milligan 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB Scotlandville | 2023 State LA — 6-0, 190 RB — Scotlandville (2023)
The two-way athlete was a talented backup running back as a sophomore and a hyper-productive tackle machine as an outside linebacker/safety hybrid as a junior. He finished this fall with 126 tackles, including 20 for loss and four sacks.
Treyveon Perkins — 6-0, 180 ATH — East Iberville (2023)
The speedy, athletic rising senior is a standout in a variety roles for his Class 1A program, including quarterback and his more natural defensive back. Perkins lists a 4.46-second 40-yard dash that shows up all over his film covering ground in coverage as a corner or safety, chasing down plays elsewhere on the field or bringing the ball back the other direction after impressive leaping interceptions or heads-up fumble recoveries.
Chase Square — 6-0, 190 LB — Catholic (Baton Rouge) (2024)
The youngster of the bunch has spent his freshman and sophomore years developing in the Bears’ powerhouse program that won the past two Division-I state championships and appears to be working well toward earning a bigger role on varsity this fall. The outside linebacker/safety already boasts more size than many of his recent predecessors, as well as a listed 4.61-second 40-yard dash and 36-inch vertical, and has hit both the camp and 7-on-7 circuits hard this spring.
