Get 25% off your subscription by entering Knight25 in the coupon code area. Enjoy! Every Friday in March and April, we'll take an in-depth look at prospects across Oklahoma. Each week, we'll ask for prospects who want their hudl film to be evaluated by us and in these posts, we'll have some form of a scouting report on each prospect. Each week we'll be doing this, so if you've reached out and are not listed this week, there's a good chance you'll be in next week's feature. Our inbox was absolutely flooded with film over the last week so we have plenty of prospects to get to throughout March and April. This is also a great way for us to see some of the prospects that we haven't either seen or in some cases, haven't heard of yet. We can always be better covering the state and this is a great way to see some new players across Oklahoma. If you're a prospect or a parent of a prospect and want more exposure this spring, sign up for our Showcase Camp on April 30th in Tulsa. Jenks defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="294445" first="Cash" last="Jacobsen"] is up first and at first, he immediately passes the eye test at 6'4 and nearly 250 pounds. However, all of his film breakdown does have an asterisk next to it because it doesn't come at the varsity level. But despite that, there's a lot to like about his game up front. At defensive tackle, Jacobsen is an absolute animal and was completely disruptive last season. We're very interested to see how he looks as he moves up to the varsity level. The defensive line will be an area where Jenks needs new faces after graduating stars [player_tooltip player_id="38697" first="AJ" last="Brown"] and [player_tooltip player_id="61129" first="Colemon" last="Thurber"]. That could open the door for Jacobsen to have an impact as a sophomore. He's a terrific athlete as well and not just a big guy. He also plays basketball and lacrosse for the Trojans. At the end of all of these breakdowns, we say what a player can work on and how he projects to the next level. Before we go there with Jacobsen, we want to see him make the move to the varsity level first and then we'll evaluate him and see how his game looks at the next level. But he's off to a very good start. [player_tooltip player_id="219073" first="DJ" last="McKinney"] - 2023 Running Back - Booker T Washington We have to start with this statement and at this point, it's a statement of fact. Booker T Washington will ALWAYS have one of the top running backs in the state and this year is no different. We were curious who would be stepping up into that spot after [player_tooltip player_id="47955" first="Jaiden" last="Carroll"] transferred to Jenks. We got that answer pretty quickly with the emergence of 2023 running back [player_tooltip player_id="219073" first="DJ" last="McKinney"]. The shifty speedster accounted for well over 1,000 yards last season and when you watch him on film, you can't help but be impressed with the speed that he flashes when he breaks into the open field. McKinney also showcased impressive versatility within the offense of the Hornets last season. In addition to running back, he would also line up in the slot and make plays as a wide receiver. He was also a punt returner in special teams. Every time he got the ball in his hands and was in the open field, you would just hold your breath and see if he could make something happen in a big way. McKinney was also one of the standouts in a loaded running back class at our camp back in January. In terms of improvement, McKinney is a speedster so concerns about his size might come up when talking about the next level. [player_tooltip player_id="311217" first="Jamarion" last="Hamilton"] - 2023 Wide Receiver - Midwest City Our first prospect in this post that I didn't know about before launching this series is Midwest City's [player_tooltip player_id="311217" first="Jamarion" last="Hamilton"]. The Bombers took a step back in 2021 after making it to the semifinals in 2020. But 2022 could be promising as they move down to Class 5A and have some talented players returning, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Hamilton could end up being Midwest City's top playmaker outside of the quarterback position. As a junior, Hamilton was an excellent wide receiver and also made an impact in the running game. He would line up almost as if he was a flexbone running back and would take handoffs from the quarterback who was in shotgun. It was clear that the Bombers wanted to get Hamilton involved as often as possible. Another thing that stood out when watching the film was his ability to lower the shoulder and deliver a blow. He didn't shy away from contact from oncoming defenders. Hamilton is fighting an uphill battle as a WR in the 2023 class as it's absolutely loaded with good prospects. On his Hudl, he lists himself as a WR/DB, but there are no plays on defense. Hamilton might have a better opportunity as a prospect if he flips to defensive back where there aren't as many prospects in the class. [player_tooltip player_id="286908" first="Josh" last="Hendricks"] - 2024 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back - Rejoice Christian In addition to taking a look at the film, we've gotten a great chance to see Rejoice Christina 2024 standout [player_tooltip player_id="286908" first="Josh" last="Hendricks"] several times this offseason while playing 7v7 football for Sooner7. While it's obviously different than what we see on Friday nights, it also gives us an up close look at the type of athlete a kid is. Hendricks is certainly a prospect and athlete to keep an eye on in the state's 2024 class. On offense, Hendricks is an excellent receiver who has incredibly reliable hands. He was one of the main targets for Rejoice quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="157515" first="Chance" last="Wilson"], who became an absolute star last fall. Hendricks is just as talented on the defensive side of the ball, playing safety. Those reliable hands came in handy often as he came down with several interceptions throughout the season. The 2024 class in Oklahoma seems light right now and that could open the door for a prospect like Hendricks to really emerge as one of the better two-way players in the class. The biggest hangup for us at this point when it comes to Hendricks as a prospect is projecting what position would be the best fit for him at the next level. He clearly has some time to grow into a natural spot but as of right now, it's too early to call. We'll need to check back later on that answer. [player_tooltip player_id="157510" first="Kenyon" last="Bigbow"] - 2023 Offensive Lineman - Anadarko We first got a chance to see Anadarko offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="157510" first="Kenyon" last="Bigbow"] following his sophomore season and he immediately became one of our favorites at the position with just how dominant he was off the ball. Taking a look at his junior film, he showcased a lot of the things that made us like him a year ago. He's one of the more powerful blockers in this class and is incredibly violent when he gets his hands on you. There's no doubt that he's a powerful blocker and when he gets his hands on you, more times than not you're not shedding that block. He also does a good job of moving around and getting to the next level of a defense and the Warriors also utilize him as a pulling blocker plenty of times. We really like the offensive line group within Oklahoma's 2023 class and for Bigbow to take that next step and become one of the top five to ten guys at that position, here's a couple things to improve. Strength and power is no doubt a plus with him but becoming more explosive and quick out of his stance will only help him in the long run. Another thing we noticed when he got to the next level to block, some times he didn't make the best choice on WHO to block. That's a minor detail. [player_tooltip player_id="278631" first="Landon" last="Bowen"] - 2024 Quarterback - Chickasha He's listed here as a quarterback but Chickasha 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="278631" first="Landon" last="Bowen"] is definitely more of an athlete. He is a quarterback, don't get us wrong. But it's also pretty clear that he's a fantastic athlete after watching the first ten clips of his highlight film from last season. In those first ten plays, Bowen threw the ball maybe two times and was a power runner in the rest of those plays. That should be a good combination this fall as Bowen teams up with 2023 running back Malik Murphy to make up a pretty good running backfield for Chickasha. Bowen is a strong runner who would get caught up in plenty of dog piles and would find a way to break away and get into the open field to make a longer run. Bowen is definitely a 2024 prospect that we're gonna keep an eye on. As for what Bowen could be at the next level, quarterback isn't out of the question but we'll certainly need to see more of what he can do when he's throwing the ball. As a sophomore, Bowen was more of a runner and will need to improve in the passing department. We would be interested to see what Bowen looks like on the defensive side of the ball as a linebacker. Similar to Chickasha district rival Clinton and their star [player_tooltip player_id="38610" first="Caden" last="Powell"]. [player_tooltip player_id="311218" first="Russel" last="Dugger"] - 2023 Quarterback - Catoosa Similar to Hendricks at Rejoice, another prospect we've seen in person this offseason has been Catoosa 2023 quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="311218" first="Russel" last="Dugger"] as he played with Sooner 7. Dugger has a really good arm and what really stood out to us while watching his film is how quickly he gets the ball out. Part of that is the routes his receivers are running but defenses have virtually no shot on getting hands on him because the ball is out fairly quickly. When they do have a shot, he's big enough and physical enough to tuck it and run. We'll go on the record that Dugger will be a breakout star in Class 4A football this fall and here's why. He has talent and we believe that Catoosa's offense will take the next step under head coach Christian Hood as he goes into year two setting up his system. The biggest hurdle for Dugger to overcome in terms of his recruitment will be his own position. It's getting tougher and tougher to get recruited as a quarterback coming out of high school. With the transfer portal full of current college quarterbacks, most schools are taking their chances there instead of signing a senior out of high school. It's definitely hurting the quarterback position coming out of high school but it's the sad truth in recruiting today. [player_tooltip player_id="118808" first="Tayden" last="Coleman"] - 2023 Defensive Lineman - Beggs After spending a season at Ada, 2023 defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="118808" first="Tayden" last="Coleman"] has moved back to Beggs and could be an instant impact player for the Golden Demons as they lose a strong defensive end in [player_tooltip player_id="38691" first="Maliek" last="Bogard"]. Coleman will also benefit if he ends up lining up at defensive end from playing alongside fellow 2023 standout [player_tooltip player_id="112479" first="Chance" last="Jordan"], who is without a doubt the top defensive tackle in the state's 2023 class. We are curious as to how colleges view him. Whether they like him at defensive end or if they would plan on moving him back to a linebacker spot. based on his size, it would be a safe bet that linebacker would be in his future but then again, it could be too early to tell. When it comes to improvement or areas of concern, we don't have much for Coleman. The biggest thing that stood out is we weren't able to find any film from Coleman from his junior season at Ada. That's why there isn't much of a breakdown on his game right here. We could go back to his sophomore season at Beggs, there's plenty of video from his first time at Beggs but nothing from last season. But like we said, that isn't much of a concern and easily fixed with his play on the field this fall. [player_tooltip player_id="98178" first="Ty" last="Walls"] - 2023 Wide Receiver - Jenks Jenks 2023 wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="98178" first="Ty" last="Walls"] is right there with Booker T Washington's [player_tooltip player_id="219073" first="DJ" last="McKinney"] for being the highest rated prospects in this breakdown. Walls is coming off a junior season in which he enjoyed a breakout year at the receiver position. He ended up leading the Trojans in receiving with over 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns. A 1,000 yard receiver is not that common in Jenks history but Walls is in that exclusive company. And it's easy to see why when watching the film. Walls will catch just about anything that is thrown his way. He does a great job using his hands at the right time and catching the ball within traffic. We're of the belief that Walls is going to absolutely blow up this fall and have a massive senior season. Despite being a very run-oriented team last year and they probably will be again this fall, Walls will more than likely surpass his production from his junior season as he'll be hands down the top target in the Jenks passing game. One thing that will help him climb the ladder in a crowded '23 class at receiver is continuing to work on his speed and explosiveness to create separation from defensive backs. Walls is yet another standout at the receiver position from Jenks in the last decade. [player_tooltip player_id="311219" first="Xavier" last="Shackelford"] - 2023 Athlete - Norman Our final prospect is right there at the top of the list in terms of pure playmaking ability. Norman 2023 standout [player_tooltip player_id="311219" first="Xavier" last="Shackelford"] is listed as an athlete but he played primarily as a running back for the Tigers last season. And he absolutely excelled in that position. Shackelford was incredibly explosive and the first thing that didn't just stand out, it jumped off the screen was his speed. Especially his speed in the open field as he was rarely caught from behind if he broke a play into the open field. However, whenever we see a prospect like that, the first question we have is how will he handle having to lower the shoulder and become more physical and that answer came pretty quickly within the same highlight. One play in particular against Mustang stood out where he not only broke a few tackles but he was able to showcase a spin move that got him away from a few more would-be tacklers. We like the 1-2 punch of Shackelford and 2023 QB [player_tooltip player_id="204031" first="Tias" last="McClarty"] for the Tigers this fall and the Tigers could be an explosive offense yet again with those two. Shackelford's biggest hurdle to overcome as a prospect will be questions about his size. He's listed at 5'8 and just over 160 pounds and that will certainly be something he has to overcome with his playmaking ability.
