National Prospects
So often, you will see NFL talent that did not get four or 5-star prospects coming out of high school; I believe it’s hard to rate grit and love of the game. That sense of being left out will motivate some of the best hardest workers to outwork the top players in their class (See Cooper Kupp). In my opinion, many prospects are “slept on” and have a chance to make a splash this fall, but this list right here should be known by all football fans before they hit the next level. Get familiar with these national watchlist players for the fall of 2022 football season.
Jalen Washington c/o 2024 – Houston, Mississippi
Position: RB
5’8 185 lbs
Notes:
Speed is something that Jalen has been working on this offseason, and he was not slow to start. Washington is a tough runner who rushed for over 2,000 yards as a sophomore, which is impressive. You have to see the play develop, play fast, and make the right reads; Jalen does all of that well. Good hands are included in this package as well. I believe Washington is a hidden gem and will see division one offers sooner than later.
Dre Kirkpatrick Jr c/o 2024 – Gadsden City, Alabama
Position: DB
5’11 175 lbs
Notes:
Dre was one of the MVP defensive backs at the Under Armour All-American camp in Ohio on March 20 at the Fortress Obetz. I had a chance to watch Dre’s first two reps and even recorded the first rep taking on one of the top TEs in Ohio and winning the rep. Having a dad who was a 2x National Champion and a first-round draft pick doesn’t hurt either when you want to learn the game. The technique was not to question as Kirkpatrick’s smooth footwork and ability to open his hips in transition were smooth. The next level’s question will be whether he will play SAF or CB; he is physical enough to play both, depending on the scheme.
Jamir Benjamin c/o 2024 – West Bloomfield, Michigan
Position: CB
5’11 175 lbs
Notes:
Jamir was another Defensive Back that caught my attention at the UA All-American camp. The technique is always the first thing I spot when watching the secondary and reactionary skills. Jamir was able to break up plenty of plays, and to only be in the class of 2024, he has the upside of a four or 5-star prospect. I was shocked to see that he was not an MVP in the DB group, but this kid has the potential to play beyond college with his athleticism mixed with grit. Benjamin will be a premium CB in the class of 2024 across the country; expect to see the blue blood of college football offer him starting this year.
Drew Viotto c/o 2023 – Walled Lake Western, Michigan
Position: QB
6’4 220 lbs
Notes:
Drew has verbally committed to play football at Eastern Michigan University before the start of his senior season, which is not a bad idea for prospects since the transfer portal debacle. Drew has been competing at a high level in various 7v7 tournaments this off-season, and he is ready to start the fall season today. Drew had one of the strongest arms out of the QBs at the UA All-American camp on March 20 in Columbus, Ohio. One other thing to note is Drew’s IQ level is one of the best when it comes to coverages as he works with QB University to help develop his football acumen. Touch on his passes and accuracy on the deep ball is why you will like this prospect if your QB fan.
Aaron Scott Jr Aaron Scott Jr 6'1" | 160 lbs | DB Springfield | 2024 State OH Jr c/o 2024 – Springfield, Ohio
Position: CB
6’1 160 lbs
Notes:
Scott had a breakout season as a sophomore for the Springfield Wildcats that fell just shy of a State Championship. Aaron made many plays throughout the season to help get his team to make that deep run in the playoffs. What stands out about Scott is his length and playmaking skills on the football. PBU should be Scott Jr nickname because that’s all he does when the ball is targeting his receiver. Scott showed his ability to cover some of the best WRs in the area with the best QBs throwing the ball; he showed why he is one of the best in Ohio at the UA camp. Aaron is an All-State talent and will continue to climb the ranks of elite national DBs.
