In this article, I’ll go over four 2024 standouts when it comes to getoff. This list primarily includes guys near the top of the DL rankings, but that shows how well get-off correlates to production.
J’len Anderson J’len Anderson 5'10" | 195 lbs | DL Warren Fitzgerald | 2024 MI HUDL
Sporting one of, if not the fastest getoff in the state, J’len Anderson J’len Anderson 5'10" | 195 lbs | DL Warren Fitzgerald | 2024 MI ’s highlight reel is full of blazing-fast getoffs. His burst and first step are elite, and as I said, the highlights are insane. There’s one play that’s straight out of Madden where Anderson gets into the backfield and sacks the Quarterback before he can even hand it off to the Running Back.
Brandon Davis-Swain Brandon Davis-Swain 6'4" | 230 lbs | DL West Bloomfield | 2024 State MI HUDL
No surprise here, as Davis-Swain is one of the premier D-Line prospects in the Midwest. Davis-Swain gets off the ball with great speed, balance, and leverage along with his elite intangibles. In other words, his getoff is controlled and consistent, offering maximum power with every snap.
Anthony Wright Anthony Wright 6'0" | 285 lbs | DL Chippewa Valley | 2024 State MI HUDL
Wright has an incredible getoff for a 5’11 270 pound young man. He’s off the ball in a flash and often reacts quicker than some lineman, which is always a great thing to see in a defensive player. Wright’s getoff allows him to get into the backfield more often, and when he does, he’s often patient and intelligent, not to panic or freeze while suddenly in a prime position.
Magnuson Lars Lott Magnuson Lars Lott 6'0" | 220 lbs | DL Rochester Adams | 2024 MI HUDL
Watching Lars Lott is a thing of beauty. Unlike those above, Lars Lott posts excellent footwork and speed on his many stunts. He’s often seen dropping off, then attacking the edge as the DE crashes inside. Lars Lott’s quickness makes these stunts work so incredibly well, and hats off to the Detroit Jesuit coaching staff for drawing up these plays.
