Continue ReadingI had the pleasure of attending and covering the UA Next Middle School camp in Towson, Maryland this past weekend. Although I primarily scout talent out of the state of Pennsylvania, the UA Next MS camp provided a ton of talent from multiple states, talent that deserves to be covered at length. In this piece, I will break down some of the best performances I saw from the WR/DB group consisting of 6th-8th grade stars.
JaShon McIntyre |5’8, 140 | ATH | 757Colts | 2026
The absolute deserving MVP of his group. JaShon McIntyre without a doubt put on the best performance of any skill player at this camp. Everything McIntyre did was with ease. His separating ability is elite for his age. The young man can eat up space in a hurry against off-coverage. His impressive release allows little room for defenders to false step, which McIntyre often took advantage of at this camp. He has serious gears to his play, hitting each one with a purpose. This young man is going to do the majority of his damage with his speed and quickness but his early film shows serious pass-catching and YAC ability. When looking at the WR group as a whole, I’m not sure there was a more complete weapon than McIntyre and that’s saying something considering the amount of talent present. Observing him work had me fully aware of why this kid is on teams’ radar across the nation.
Bennie Bryant | TE | Southwest Baltimore | 2026
Here’s a big man whose natural hands surprised. He came up with some ridiculous catches all throughout the camp, displaying some of the best hand-eye coordination you can find from an 8th grader. The kid is more than likely a tight end right now. From a scouting perspective Bryant’s height/weight combination should be exciting to future coaching staffs. Most of the baby fat you might see now is going to shed in the weight room, he’s going to become more explosive and carry his weight much easier. His pass-catching ability isn’t going anywhere. Excited for his future.
Jacoby Marshell | 6’0, 175 | WR/DB | 2026
Many of the prospects in this list can play both ways effectively. However, I’d certainly save the “athlete” designation for Jacoby Marshell who looks to best serve his future HS at both DB and wideout. The young man’s got the athleticism and length to play in space at corner, yet not having him running routes on offense wouldn’t maximize his potential. When it’s tough to determine where a player his age would best suit a team, the correct answer is playing him both sides. Smooth in and out of his breaks on offense, smooth transitioning his hips and breaking on balls on defense. From a pure athletic perspective, there’s a ton to like about Marshell.
A.J. Marks | DB | Farmington Hills East | 2026
A.J. Marks was a name that was brought to my attention before the camp as a prospect to keep my eye on. The sources were on point, as Marks took home MVP honors representing the defensive backs. My favorite part of Marks’ game is his overall consistency at corner. Every prospect in the nation has areas to improve, as does Marks, yet almost all aspects have been worked on and developed thus far. His backpedal is consistently smooth. Low and balanced, shoulders square with target, hardly any false steps. I can tell just how much attention to detail this young man puts forth just by watching him work at this camp. He hardly panics, has plenty of make-up speed to stay in stride with wideouts. I can see potential growth that would help him develop more of a physical presence at corner. The hand and leverage usage is there, all that is needed is some extra work in the weight room that could potentially skyrocket this young man’s stock through the roof. He recently picked up his first offer from Eastern Kentucky University.
Kaai Connelley | WR/DB | 2027
Dontrae Walls | DB/QB | 6’1, 140 | 757 Colts | 2026
Jayden Covil | DB/WR | 6’0 | Oscar Smith HS | 2026
Here are a trio of prospects who I’ll have my eye on moving forward. All three had underrated camps and progressed through drills really well. Kaai Connelley’s total skill set as a seventh grader is something you don’t come across too often.
Dontrae Walls represented 757 Colts well, showing off a great frame with long limbs that make playing DB that much easier. Walls can locate the football while in phase which is tough to do against elite competition, as well as in a situation where all eyes are solely on you.
Jayden Covil had an underrated camp as well. He’s a prospect who’s testing scores I’m eager to see. I can see the rawness is Covil’s game, yet the potential sticks out when seeing the ball skills he displayed in drills.
