One thing jumps out about the Prep Redzone Rankings for 2024: Specialists are living up to their name.
Two kickers and two punters are already ranked in the class, and Spring Practice isn’t even complete everywhere just yet. The four specialists on the list have plenty in common: big, strong kicking legs and the ability to do their jobs well. Here’s a look at all four.
[player_tooltip player_id="340391" first="Cavan" last="Craig"], <strong>K, Bishop England:</strong> Craig already has a career-long 59-yard field goal to his credit, along with a 77-yard kickoff and a 55-yard punt. He visited Vanderbilt for the Commodores Spring game, and has participated in national camp events. How accurate is Craig? His Twitter feed has video of him banging kicks off a telephone pole - from 40 yards away.
[player_tooltip player_id="208343" first="Thomas" last="Guererro"], <strong>K, Greenville:</strong> Guererro missed a single kick for the Red Raiders last season, finishing 42-of-43 on extra points and 4-for-4 on field goals. His resume includes a 42-yard game winner last season.
[player_tooltip player_id="91354" first="Coleman" last="Franzone"], <strong>P, James Island:</strong> Franzone showcases every tool. Long kicks, short kicks, directional kicks, killing punts inside the 20, knocking kicks into the corner - he can do a little bit of all of it. He was ranked the No. 2 punter at the Kohl’s Midwest Showcase earlier this month.
[player_tooltip player_id="340392" first="Sam" last="Crocker"], <strong>P, Oceanside Collegiate:</strong> Crocker punts with good distance, direction, and hangtime. He’s also a kicker, and has been progressing well in the offseason on both kickoffs and place-kicking.
