Going into next season, not only will it be very interesting to see who rises to the top, but it will also be very interesting to see who continues to impress based off of what they have put on tape in previous seasons. Below, we have listed some of our favorite players going into next season within this conference, who we think are very much worth the watch, who have a very high level of talent and ability.
Davie County- Willie Purvis (CB)
Last season, Purvis proved to be one of the more talented defensive players in his region, as he performed at one of the hardest positions to play in the entire game of football. Not only did he prove to bend well and move well in coverage, but he also proved to be a very hard-nosed corner, who is not afraid to come up and make tackles. Because the region is loaded with great talent at the receiver position, he is not only very valuable to his team, but he will be one of the players that stand out within his position group across the entire region. Look for him to have a great season this year.
East Forsyth- Que’Sean Brown Que’Sean Brown 5'8" | 150 lbs | WR East Forsyth | 2023 State NC (WR)
Out of this entire region, Brown happens to be one of the more fun players to watch, and track in terms of his progression. Not only is he a very elusive route runner, but he does a good job of high-pointing the football, and beating defenders in press situations. Players like him are the reason that Purvis stands out within the region. Brown is a very elusive and well-rounded player, and his frame only proves to help him even more. Look for him to have a great season next year at the receiver position, and expect him to continue to get a high level of attention.
Glenn- Levine Smith Levine Smith 5'8" | 160 lbs | WR Glenn | 2023 State NC (WR)
Smith also happens to be a very talented player, but he has plenty of development ahead of him. This is part of what excites us most about seeing his progression this upcoming season. Not only is he quick in short area situations, but he is very light on his feet and he turns the corner very well. In addition to this, we like his burst and ability to change direction on a dime. Not only does Smith catch the ball well from the receiver position, but he has been seen to make big plays at the running back position as well. Look for this upcoming season to be huge for his development, and for him to be a huge piece of his team’s success.
Mount Tabor- Austin Pittman (OL)
When watching Pittman’s tape, one thing that stands out is his overall size, length, and frame. Not only does he clear space as well for the runners, but he is also very decent in pass protection as well. He moves his feet decently well, and he is quick enough off of the ball to pull efficiently. With this, it can also be seen that he uses his hands, and his arms well, but we would like to see him work on eliminating wasted movement in finishing blocks. Regardless, he is one of the more fun players to track going into next year, and we think that he will be huge for his team’s offensive success.
Parkland- Jamari Cobb (RB)
Cobb may not be the biggest player on his team, but his shiftiness, burst, and overall speed are big enough to help his team have offensive success. Not only does he get in and out of his breaks cleanly, but he appears to read the offensive line very well. This allows him to take off for big runs, which also ends up resulting in scoring points for his team. In addition to this, he proves to play very efficiently in big situations for his team. Big moments don’t seem to be too much for him, and he is not afraid of contact, and putting his body on the line. Next season we expect him to continue to add onto his body of work, and to receive attention from colleges.
Reagan- Sam Pendleton Sam Pendleton 6'4" | 305 lbs | OL Reagan | 2023 State NC (OL)
Not only is Pendleton one of the bigger players on this entire list, but he tends to be one of the most consistent at his position. Even though he can bend too much at the waist at times, he does a good job of finishing blocks, staying on his feet, and playing at a good base. Pendleton also does a good job using his hands, and arms efficiently in pass protection, protecting his quarterback at all times. Don’t let his weight and size for you as well, because he is also athletic enough to run and pull on blocks, which is great for a player his size. If he manages to have a solid season next year, do not be surprised if he gets more looks from various teams.
RJ Reynolds- Case Wright (LB)
Wright may not be the most popular player on this list, but his role as a valuable LB for his team is enough to make us want to keep an eye on him next season. Not only is he consistent with the way he wraps up and makes tackles, but he does a good job of rolling his hips and driving opposing players into the ground. He also plays very well in pursuit, and we like the way that he is able to dip and rip, placing him in positions to make good plays in a quick manner. One thing we would like to see from him is more of a natural movement, as he does appear to be stiff at times. If Wright can improve in these areas next year, we expect him to become one of the best defensive players in the region.
West Forsyth- Kaleb Benson (DL)
While Benson may be one of the more raw players on this list, we still love his ability to explode off the ball, disrupt traffic, and make big plays in the backfield. This includes tackles for a loss, and sacks. He also may not be the fastest and most light on his feet, but he’s effective when stopping the run. Benson rolls his hips on tackles, and drives his feet into the ground efficiently. He also proves to be very strong, and we like the way that he plays at a good pad level, never bending too much at his waist. Look for next year to be a big year for him
