Kenyon Singleton Kenyon Singleton 5'10" | 160 lbs | LB Hobbs | 2022 State NM , Hobbs: Singleton totaled 132 tackles and was usually the best defensive player on the field in 2021. Watch out for the Eagles. Not only do they have the best LB in southern New Mexico in 2022, they also have the top wide receiver ( Kaden Trevino Kaden Trevino 5'11" | 175 lbs | WR Hobbs | 2023 State NM ). If Hobbs gets decent QB play, they’ll be a major factor in the 6A playoff picture. Circle Sept. 16 on your calendar. That’s when Rio Rancho visits Hobbs for an intriguing showdown.
Ryan Stovall Ryan Stovall 6'2" | 195 lbs | LB Alamogordo | 2023 State NM , Alamogordo: The Tigers struggled to win games in 2021 but Stovall was outstanding with 59 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 2 sacks. Stovall possesses great size at 6-foot-3, 200 pounds. That will capture the attention of college coaches. Like Los Lunas, Alamogordo moved to Class 6A for at least the next two seasons and face a challenging district slate against Carlsbad, Centennial, Hobbs, Las Cruces and Organ Mountain.
Dalton Trapp Dalton Trapp 6'5" | LB Ruidoso | 2023 State NM , Ruidoso: The thing that stands out about Trapp is his size: 6-foot-6, 240 pounds. Trapp helped Ruidoso reach the Class 4A champion ship game in 2021 and should be a load for offensive tackles to handle from his DE/OLB spot for the Warriors this season. Not surprisingly, colleges are taking notice. New Mexico State has expressed interest by inviting him to camp. He visited Eastern New Mexico in April for Junior Day.
Joshua Carrasco Joshua Carrasco 6'0" | 190 lbs | LB Lovington | 2024 State NM , Lovington: The Wildcats utilized a high voltage offensive attack to win the Class 4A title. But Lovington had a pretty good defense too, and Carrasco was one of the most productive defenders with 87 tackles, 12 TFL and 2.5 sacks as a sophomore. He could potentially develop into one of the state’s top LBs by the time he’s a senior.
John Sierra John Sierra 6'2" | 210 lbs | LB Centennial | 2024 State NM , Centennial: Another southern NM linebacker with good size (6-foot-2, 205 pounds) and speed. Sierra was First-team All-District in 2021 and Honorable Mention All-State. Centennial has a lot of key players returning on both sides of the ball in 2022 and should again compete for the district title and a high seed in the Class 6A playoffs.
HONORABLE MENTION: Manny Chavez (Portales); Josh Mondragon Josh Mondragon LB Clovis | 2024 State NM (Clovis); Ricardo Andrade Ricardo Andrade 6'0" | LB Las Cruces | 2024 State NM (Las Cruces); Anson Marquez Anson Marquez 5'10" | 160 lbs | LB Lovington | 2024 State NM (Lovington); Brandon Houston Brandon Houston LB Jal | 2024 State NM (Jal); Devyn Woods Devyn Woods 5'10" | 185 lbs | LB Centennial | 2023 State NM (Centennial).
Proud of these guys for earning second team all district honors!
