Prep Redzone Oklahoma is all about team camps over the next ten days! We got our camp tour started on Wednesday evening in Choctaw (check out our camp report RIGHT HERE) and we continued in Verdigris on Thursday morning. The Cardinals hosted Beggs, Catoosa, Coweta, Hilldale, Kiefer, Pryor, and Wagoner. We got a good look at some prospects that we know plenty about, as well as some prospects that we were seeing for the first time and even a few new names that have some potential to be breakout players this fall. In this post, we take a look at some of the top names that stood out to us on a rainy evening in Choctaw. Stay tuned to Prep Redzone Oklahoma this week as we continue our camp tour at Verdigris and Noble on Thursday. Followed by Owasso and Claremore on Friday!
Alex Shieldnight Alex Shieldnight 6'3" | 230 lbs | DL Wagoner | 2025 State OK – 2025 OLB – Wagoner
This 2025 class is really starting to take shape throughout the state of Oklahoma. One of the first players I spotted out on the field today was Shieldnight playing outside linebacker and his length. He was all over the field making plays and was physical in every facet he played. With only being a sophomore next season, I expect Shieldnight to blow up in both recruiting and to have a stellar year two campaign. I liked how he uses his hands to shed blocks, plays physical on both sides of the ball, and keeps a hard edge out on the perimeter. At tight end, he is physical on the point of contact and stays on his blocks downfield. Shieldnight will be a prospect to keep an eye out for these next couple of years,
Tyler Mitchell Tyler Mitchell 6'3" | 175 lbs | WR Verdigris | 2023 State OK – 2023 Athlete- Verdigris
Mitchell was a player I was able to watch this past season. He is a 2023 prospect on a loaded Verdigris football team. Mitchell has picked up a few offers these past few weeks and we expect for him to get more attention as the season gets here. Tyler plays at wide receiver and safety for the Cardinals where he is expected to start on both sides of the ball, just like last season. He stands at 6’3″ and has good body length with long arms. He does a great job at wide receiver making plays but loves to block downfield as he engages with his defender. On the defensive side, Mitchell plays safety and did a good job making plays in the flats and had a nice interception as he undercut the wide receiver to make the play.
Kaden Stanton Kaden Stanton 6'5" | OL Beggs | 2023 State OK – 2023 OL – Beggs
Stanton played both ways for the Demons and he stood out on both sides of the ball to us. When we watched him Thursday morning, he anchored the offensive line up front and played some defensive end. We all know what Stanton brings to the table as an offensive lineman but what I liked on the defensive side was to see him coming off the ball. Once he engaged with the offensive lineman he did a good job of using his hands to gain separation. At 6’5″ coming off the edge, the way he does, he presented matchup problems to other offensive lineman. Stanton does a great job upfront on the offensive side as he has a good bend in his hips and gets to the second level quickly.
Tayden Coleman Tayden Coleman 6'2" | 210 lbs | DL Beggs | 2023 OK – 2023 LB – Beggs
Coleman is another talented player for the Beggs Demons that plays linebacker. Thursday morning, Coleman was all over the field making plays either in the box or out on the perimeter. Coleman is an athletic linebacker that can run and attacks downhill between the tackles. We were able to watch him out on the edge and fly around to the ball Thursday morning. Coleman reacts quickly with his reads and gets to the ball.
Kevon Robinson Kevon Robinson 6'2" | WR Coweta | 2024 State OK – 2024 WR – Coweta
Robinson first appeared to us at our showcase back in April this year. I watched him run his 40-yard dash and was immediately impressed by how easy he made it look. Thursday morning, Robinson looked good running his routes getting open, and making big plays over and over. He can adjust to the ball in mid-air and shows great body control. Robinson made a great play in the end zone where he adjusted to the ball and caught it over his shoulder. He was impressive throughout the day and will be a key component for the Tigers this upcoming season.
Michael Barnett Michael Barnett 6'0" | ATH Catoosa | 2023 State OK – 2023 WR/DB – Catoosa
Another player that caught our eye was Barnett that could play multiple positions either running back or wide receiver. Barnett was able to do a lot of things for Catoosa out of the backfield or out in a route. Barnett runs good routes and is finding ways to get open downfield. Catoosa runs a lot of RPO to get those linebackers downhill so they can throw right behind them. Barnett would turn a short pickup into a big gain with his vision and ability to catch the ball.
Logan Harper – 2023 WR – Hilldale
Another Hornet that caught our eye on Thursday was Logan Harper. He is a big threat wide receiver downfield and can go up and get the ball. His body size alone, 6’3.5″ 195 pounds, would be a nightmare for any defensive back out on the field. Harper moves well in space with his size and made some big catches Thursday morning downfield. Harper will be a big-time receiver for the Hornets this upcoming season. Harper will be able to make blocks downfield for the Hornets running game which will set up Harper for the play action. Harper will be a prospect to keep up with throughout the season to make a big impact on Friday nights.
