Today, we’re finishing up the 2024 prospect breakdowns with our final group. In this post, we’re breaking down
Issac Covington
Issac
Covington
5'11" | 190 lbs | ATH
Union | 2024
State
OK
– Booker T Washington
(Ranked #11 Overall – #1 DB)
Once again, a Booker T Washington prospect is in the top spot for his position and for Issac Covington Issac Covington 5'11" | 190 lbs | ATH Union | 2024 State OK , he’s had a firm grip on the top DB spot for the state’s 2024 class. Covington, despite being surrounded by upperclassmen that would sign with D1 programs, found his way onto the field early on for Booker T Washington and has been an impact player for the Hornets ever since. We love the versatility that Covington brings to the game and allows the Hornets to use him in a variety ways and even play on both sides of the ball. This fall, Covington might have an elevated role on both sides of the ball. He’ll be one of the more experienced defenders on Booker T Washington’s defense but he’ll also spend time at running back on offense and the Hornets are going to have one of the better offenses in 6A-2. But Covington is at his best when he’s on defense and he’ll have a chance to be the next impact player to come out of Booker T Washington’s secondary.
Damontre Patterson
Damontre
Patterson
5'10" | 145 lbs | WR
Sulphur | 2024
State
OK
– Ada
(Ranked #13 Overall – #2 DB)
Just like with Covington at Booker. T Washington, Damontre Patterson Damontre Patterson 5'10" | 145 lbs | WR Sulphur | 2024 State OK has been at the top of the DB boards for the state’s 2024 class since his freshman season. Patterson is a lockdown cornerback prospect that we definitely want to keep an eye on this fall to see how his junior year plays out. He spent his first two seasons at Elmore City, playing Class A ball and will now be at Ada for his junior year. Patterson is one of the fastest football prospects in the state as he absolutely torched the track season with Ada this spring. That speed is the top attribute that allows Patterson to be one of the top corners in this class. A wide receiver can’t beat a corner that they can’t get separation from and Patterson is with his man every step of the way. We’re interested to see how Patterson responds to playing a higher level of football with more competition week after week but we don’t have many other questions.
Devon Jordan
Devon
Jordan
6'1" | DB
Union | 2024
State
OK
– Union
(Ranked #36 Overall – #4 DB)
Union has a secondary that we really like coming into this fall. A mix of 2023 and 2024 prospects have us thinking that the Redhawks are going to have one of the best secondary units in the state. One of those new faces, ready to make a big impact is 2024 DB Devon Jordan Devon Jordan 6'1" | DB Union | 2024 State OK . This Union prospect is an absolute athlete. In fact, we could see Jordan playing a variety of positions at the next level when you look at the combination of size, speed and overall skillset. 7v7 isn’t regular football on a Friday night but Jordan was one of the more impressive defensive prospects that we got a chance to watch this offseason. He had one game where every time we turned around, he was jumping a route, picking off a pass and taking it back for six. Again, 7v7 tournaments don’t tell the whole story, but Jordan is a new name on this latest ranking update that definitely needs some more looks.
Brytan Gaddy
Brytan
Gaddy
6'1" | 165 lbs | DB
Sulphur | 2024
State
OK
– Sulphur
(Ranked #38 Overall – #5 DB)
Another defensive back prospect who absolutely dominated during track season was Sulphur’s Brytan Gaddy Brytan Gaddy 6'1" | 165 lbs | DB Sulphur | 2024 State OK . It should come as no surprise that Gaddy and Patterson torched the track season as they’re two of the better southern Oklahoma prospects and have been apart of Sean Cooper’s C4 program for workouts and 7v7 play during the offseason. Gaddy is a really good athlete that we’ve liked since his freshman season. The thing that always stands out to us when it comes to his game is his versatility. He can do several things on the field really well and seems like he’s getting better and better every time he steps on the field. We’re waiting for Gaddy’s recruitment to take off but he should be considered one of the better defensive prospects in the state’s 2024 class. Although he could also be considered one of the better offensive prospects as he does have plenty of film making plays there.
Davien Taylor
Davien
Taylor
6'0" | 175 lbs | DB
John Marshall | 2024
State
OK
– John Marshall
(Ranked #44 Overall – #6 DB)
Our final prospect in this breakdown is John Marshall defensive back Davien Taylor Davien Taylor 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB John Marshall | 2024 State OK . Like several other prospects on this breakdown, Taylor has been an impact player for a while now and is definitely going to be a defensive back to watch this fall. The Bears are once again going under a coaching transition and they’ll have a new head coach yet again. But for the new coaching staff, it should be obvious that they have a star in the making with Taylor. It wouldn’t surprise us if they get creative with using Taylor as he’s one of the best athletes on the team. However, like several other prospects on this breakdown who shine at other positions, Taylor is at his absolute best as a defensive back. We’re interested to see how the Bears do this fall and how Taylor’s junior season goes when you compare it to what he’s done already. We’re looking for growth and improvement from the Bears overall as they look to claw back to being a contender.
