David Parsons, Parkersburg, Jr., 190, 6-2 – Watch out for David Parsons! He getting better at the quarterback position – all the time. Staying in the pocket? Check. Delivering a strong ball. Yup. Keeping his eyes and head up while he scrambles? Sure. Taking defenders big hits and staying on his feet to keep his threat alive? You bet. No matter what new Parkersburg head coach Matt Kimes might ask of him, he’s more than ready. That might be the best thing about Parsons, too. He’s aware he’s playing an important position and capable of handling the pressure. I really like what the next two years look like. And playing under a quarterback whisperer like Kimes is only going to make him better. The Big Reds have plenty of weapons back and Kimes isn’t afraid to throw the football. That should be right in Parsons’ wheelhouse. Splitting time with Bryson Singer one year ago, he now owns the MSAC brand of a certified playmaker. He goes through his progressions quickly, knows where his outlets are and can stand in the pocket and deliver a pretty ball. If he isn’t on your radar, he should be.
Ezra Bagent Ezra Bagent 5'9" | 155 lbs | QB poca | 2023 WV , Martinsburg, Jr., 165, 5-11 – You can certainly say this about Bagent – he doesn’t back away from a challenge. Presented an opportunity to quarterback the Bulldogs just like his four-time state champions and reigning D-II player of the year brother Tyson did, he rose up to the challenge. Playing with a stacked cache of weapons, Ezra used each and every one of them effectively on the way to Martinsburg’s fifth state title in six seasons. Along the way, he utilized a skillset that saw him deliver some strong balls comfortably and confidently from the pocket under pressure. He also shows a strength at throwing on the run and can escape the pocket. He trusts his receivers and knows they won’t let him down. If you are a coach looking for a great QB, take a look at Bagent.
DUAL-THREAT
Robert Shockey, Parkersburg South, Jr., 190, 6-2 – Shockey has all the tools required to be a great dual-threat quarterback. Really. His build may not be typical, but it allows him to absorb more punishment when he takes off. Speaking of escaping the pocket, when he has to, Shockey possesses on otherwordly pocket presence, as if his feet move him to the right spot or can get him out of danger. He slides and jives and jukes until he finds an open receiver. And when he uncorks his cannon on the run, he’s accurate and still carries power in his arm. In the pocket, he goes through his progressions quickly, a must in Parkersburg South’s offense. He can complete most of the throws asked of him because he develops a great rapport with his receivers. Coaches should keep an eye on this strong Patriots’ signal caller.
Gavin Lochow Gavin Lochow 6'0" | 195 lbs | QB Huntington | 2023 State WV , Huntington, Sr., 195, 6-1 – I love this kid because he always wants the ball in his hands and can deliver. Whether he’s using his leg or his arm, your always getting something good when Lochow is making decisions. Aside from allowing Huntington to draw in defenses with another one in the box and possibly set up a big passing play, his mechanics are helping in mixing up the playcalling for head coach Billy Seals. If he gets out of the pocket, watch out. He’s elusive and quite graceful in his running. Throwing wise, he’s accurate and his timing is on point. Coaches interested in this guy should extend an offer because they are getting a great team guy and tremendous competitor.
