Continue ReadingSince our last rankings update I have come across, and been given several athletes that need to be included in our player rankings. That has led to the creation of this series. I am going to go through the Class of 2023, 2024, and 2025 and identify several athletes who I can’t wait to see debut in our rankings during the next update because they should earn a high ranking. I will ID the player, school, and then dive into the film for some analysis. Let’s start it off with the Class of 2023!
Davin Stoffel, TE/OLB- Mosinee (Davin’s Junior Highlights)
Davin is an intriguing prospect on the field, and I can’t wait to see where he debuts in the rankings. The 6’6″ 205 lbs WR/TE/LB is an exceptional athlete with the body control to match making it easy to translate his athleticism to the football field. Not only does he control that long, lean body well through his routes, but also at the catch point where he has shown an innate ability to track the ball and contort his body to be able to reel in passes from every angle. Davin also is blessed with naturally soft hands that allow him to catch the ball far away from his body and even farther from defenders. His frame and ability to catch the ball with his hands provides a massive catch radius for his QB as well. Stoffel is also a very productive LB showing off range and three down ability from the off ball ILB position. Davin has a couple FCS offers already. More are sure to follow. Look for Davin to push for a top 3 TE spot during our next update.
Daniel Coffman, ATH/LB- Brookfield Central (Daniel’s Junior Highlights)
This is an under the radar prospect through no fault of his own. Daniel was only able to play 36 snaps last fall due to an injury, but what he demonstrated on those snaps has me excited for a massive breakout year in 2022. The 6’2″ 200 lbs athlete lined up predominantly at ILB, and it highlighted his skill set perfectly. Daniel is a well rounded prospect. He is stout against the run, fights off blocks, and shoots through gaps with impressive burst, and he has the closing speed to wreck havoc in the backfield. He also has the range to be able to pursue and flow sideline to sideline. Coffman is also off to a great camp season as he left the Lindenwood Mega Camp with an offer from Southeast Missouri State. Don’t miss out on this soon to be breakout stud.
Louie Schwabe, TE/WR- Muskego (Louie’s Junior Highlights)
Muskego is home to a big target that teams need to know about. The 6’5″ 195 lbs WR/TE is a smooth, long striding receiving option. Louie has the body control and footwork to be able to run clean routes that generate a lot of separation. He doesn’t just create separation. Louie also provides a large catch radius, and has shown the soft hands and concentration to be able to lay out for the ball and haul lit in. He has also demonstrated the ability to adjust to the ball wherever it is located. Schwabe is also a talented basketball player where he put up 15+ PPG as a junior. The dual sport athlete is going to add even more depth to a talented TE group in the Class of 2023.
Andrew Weske, WR- Arrowhead (Andrew’s Junior Highlights)
The 5’11″ 170 lbs WR is fun to watch play. His highlights are filled with him demonstrating his exceptional speed as he eats up cushion off the line, and blows by DBs downfield. Defenses have to give over the top help or defense aren’t able to contain him. Andrews route running is next level ready as well. He maintains that top end speed throughout the route opening up a ton of separation on a snap to snap basis. The go to WR possesses consistently reliable hands, and he does a good job of flashing his hands late so that DBs can’t read him at the catch point. Weske is going to be in the running for the top WR spot in the Class of 2023. Know the name.
Trey Engram, ATH- Verona (Trey’s Junior Highlights)
Trey recently moved to Verona after playing at Gonzaga College High School in 2021. The RB is an exciting new face in WI, and I can’t wait to see what he does this fall. Trey spent last fall on the defensive side of the ball, but it gives a great look into what we can expect to see out of the backfield in 2022. Trey has all the quick twitch athleticism you look for. He pairs that next level athleticism with vision and instincts that allow him to be in the right place at the right time. It should also allow him to see holes and blocks quickly as he flips to the offensive backfield. Trey’s change of direction is also going to be a key to his game. I can’t wait to see how Trey helps out this very talented Verona team take the next step this fall.
EJ Holt III, ATH- Appleton West (EJ’s Highlight Page)
This is an interesting prospect. The 6’3″ 170 lbs WR/OLB is a talented basketball player and football player. He played a ton of OLB, and if he can continue to fill out his frame we will have something special here. EJ is an aggressive player who has plenty of length to play out on the edge where he can use it to make plays in coverage and as a pass rusher. Holt also demonstrates the lateral agility to make linemen miss in tight quarters as he works his way into the backfield. EJ also He has limited film, but the two way playmaker has me excited, and his potential will have him debuting well in the rankings.
Cannon Starke, DL/OL- Pewaukee (Cannon’s Junior Highlights)
The 6’2″ 265 lbs DL is a beast in the trenches. He has two offers from Mankato and Platteville, so far. It is easy to get excited about the state champion. He is outrageously strong in the weight room and boy does it translate to the field. He easily walks OL into the backfield. Cannon has extremely heavy hands that allow him to create separation and make tackles. When RBs run into his arms the play is over. That strength has translated into impressive burst off the line as well. He is able to get in to the gap and out of his stance before the OL does allowing him to get the leverage to in the rep. Pewuakee was the best defense in WI last year, and Starke was at the middle of it. Check this dude out!
Aiden Janke, TE/DE- Athens (Aiden’s Junior Highlights)
A top under the radar prospect is the 8 man league standout. Aiden checks in at 6’6″ 230 lbs, and uses it well to make impact plays on both sides of the ball. On defense, Aiden has a solid first step off the edge and close quickly in the backfield. He has superior strength over his opponents in the 8 man league allowing him to be a tone setter and set the edge with ease. On offense, Aiden uses that strength to be very difficult to bring down after the catch. Expect big numbers from the two way first team all conference player. Expect him to be in the running for the highest ranked 8 an player in the Class of 2023.
Eli Gustafson, TE/DE- Catholic Newman (Eli’s Junior Highlights)
The 6’4″ 215 lbs TE is fun to watch at the catch point. His concentration and ability to use all of his length to make the largest catch radius possible is next level. To watch his body control and playmaking abilities at his size is not easy to find. Eli is a man among boys at the 8 man level. He stands out from the crowd with his clearly superior strength, contact balance, and ball skills. Gustafson is also a solid option as an edge defender. I expect him to become a viable redzone threat for a D2 or D3 team at the next level. Check him out. The 8 man league has several hidden gems, including Eli.
