The camp consisted of some of the top programs in the state including Mountain View, Eagle, Rocky Mountain, Blackfoot, Centennial, Borah, and Skyview. Also, in attendance were some of the top programs in the country with Bishop Gorman a nationally ranked program and Eastside Catholic from Washington. The camp was June 12th through June 15th and consisted of multiple sessions of individuals, one on ones, team wrap and challenges.
The week consisted of tough competition throughout, with teams facing each other every day in different situation all culminating in the final competition of the night held out on the famous Blue turf of Boise State. Each team was given three games against different opponents starting from the 25-yard line with a chance to get multiple first downs to score along with having to go for the 4th down conversion. First team to get a stop and a score walked away with the victory if a both teams scored and converted their 1-point conversion from the 3-yard line then the game went to an overtime period from the 3-yard line. If the score was still tied it went to a sudden death single play from the 3-yard line to determine the winner.
Even though only one of the Idaho schools won the challenge you could see every team put up some tough competition and ultimately walked away with a positive experience.
Here are some of the takeaways from the camp:
Mountain View – The Mavericks came into the camp as the defending team champions and continued to improve each day. After graduating a dominate senior class many in the camp are wondering what the Mavericks will look like in the fall. Well look no further than an offense that continues to give defenses fits with its tempo and a defense that maybe faster sideline to sideline than the group that led the state in stops. Some of the top performers for the Mavericks were Max Maile, Traevin Hardy and Grayson Flatten Grayson Flatten 5'7" | 165 lbs | WR Mountain View | 2024 State ID . With new Head Coach Brian Compton at the helm, it will be interesting to see what changes he has made to keep the Mavericks on top of the SIC.
Rocky Mountain- The Grizzlies are going to be as good as they come this year especially in the trenches along the offensive front. The Offensive Line for the Grizzlies will be one of the best in the state if not the top group consistently moving defensive players off the ball and opening huge running lanes for their backs. This group is also ferocious on defense with their aggressive blitzing and sure tackling, Coach Culig will once again have a tough team to beat.
Eagle- The Mustangs bring back some of the most explosive offensive weapons in the state with Ian Duarte Ian Duarte 5'8" | 170 lbs | WR Eagle HS | 2023 State ID , LeRoy Hull LeRoy Hull 6'1" | 205 lbs | RB Eagle HS | 2023 State ID and Deegan Martinho Deegan Martinho 5'11" | 195 lbs | RB Eagle HS | 2023 State ID as the three headed monster on the field. Not to mention that have one of the top juniors in the state in Eli Mikita Eli Mikita 6'0" | 195 lbs | LB Eagle | 2024 State ID . Eagle showed versatility in their offensive scheme along with some minor changes on defense to have a strong showing for Coach Hartz at the camp.
Blackfoot – The boys from Blackfoot came into the camp and flat out dominated. Lead by their all-world receiver Javonte King Javonte King 6'3" | 195 lbs | WR Blackfoot HS | 2023 State ID , the Broncos are one of the top 4A school in the state. They use their spread offense to really stress the defense and their defense is made up of absolute beasts that are not afraid to impose their will. The team champions from the B Group at the Boise state camp will be in the discussion as a state championship team this year.
Centennial – The Patriots are showing some of the most improvement in the state. Lead by Coach Matt Greene, the boys from Centennials came out at competed at the highest level with pride and passion. As a team looking to turn the corner after seeing them compete with some of the bigger school at the camp, they don’t look far off from a team that could make some waves in the SIC.
Borah – The Lions from Borah are looking to continue their success and build off a season where they won 5 straight games. Coach Kenyon is going to lean heavily on Trace Freeman this season to help the Lions maintain their winning ways and found success with his team especially in the night competition on the Blue.
Skyview- The Hawks are going to be the team to watch out for this season in 4A as many of their athletes walked away with MVP honors. But as for the Hawks this team goes as Max Cutforth Max Cutforth 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Skyview HS | 2023 State ID goes the senior signal caller was elite all camp making throw after throw for his team. Not to mention their tough nosed defense lead by rising junior Ayden Martinez.
