Corona del Mar beat Cypress in the championship game and scored on every possession throughout the tournament.
Disclaimer: I did not get a chance to watch every team closely at the tournament. I go to see each team play, but only got to watch San Clemente and Foothill play briefly.
Here are the offensive players that stood out to me on Friday:
David Rasor David Rasor 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Corona Del Mar | 2023 State CA , Corona del Mar, QB
It was my first time seeing Rasor in person since his sophomore year and his arm strength really impressed me. He can fire the ball in there on intermediate routes with accuracy. He can put touch on his deep passes and his teammates have a ton of confidence in him. He was the best quarterback of the day and Corona del Mar junior Kaleb Annett wasn’t far behind.
Corona del Mar quarterback David Rasor throws a touchdown to Emori Davis. Rasor has a great arm. Junior QB Kaleb Annett looks good too. @ocvarsity @PrepRedzoneCA @CDMFOOTBALL @david_rasor18 @kalebannett @EmoriDavis25 pic.twitter.com/BNozIGfApI

Trevor Monteleone Trevor Monteleone 6'1" | 190 lbs | ATH Cypress | 2023 CA , Cypress, TE
Monteleone was the best two way player at the event and also made the top defensive performers list. His routes were crisp, he has excellent hands and can jump. He made a play on a 50/50 ball against San Clemente where he jumped and made a spectacular catch for a touchdown. Every coach that played against Cypress was complimentary of Monteleone.
Justin Gil Justin Gil 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB La Habra | 2023 State CA , La Habra, QB
Gil was the second best quarterback of the day in my opinion. His accuracy on intermediate routes is excellent and his deep throws have touch. He reads defenses well and made very few mistakes. He often made completions to his third and fourth reads on plays and opposing coaches said positive things about him.
Dylan Mills Dylan Mills 6'2" | 205 lbs | QB San Clemente | 2024 State CA , San Clemente, QB
Mills was inconsistent on Friday and he’ll be the first to tell you that. Against Cypress he threw a bad interception but on the next offensive play he threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to his receiver in stride. He is competing with Broderick Redden Broderick Redden 6'5" | 225 lbs | TE San Clemente | 2024 State CA for the starting job and Redden showed flashes too. Mills is more polished and if he can be more consistent, San Clemente can be a force this season.
Jacob Apodaca, La Habra, WR
Apodaca is a real home run threat from any spot on the field. His has speed but uses his route running and agility to create separation in man coverage. He was a top three receiver of the day in my opinion and Gil trusts him a lot.
We went 4-1 at the CDM Battle at The Bay Tournament yesterday and got better. 🏴📈 @QBJGil 🎯

Cooper Hoch, Corona del Mar, WR
Hoch has grown physically and mentally as a player over the past two years. Sea Kings coach Dan O’Shea said that he arrived on campus at 5-foot-7 and now he is 6-foot-3 and looks like star receivers of Corona del Mar’s past. On the Sea Kings’ first offensive play of the game he got behind zone coverage for a 40-yard touchdown pass. Teams will have to bracket him and at least give corners help because if he gets off the ball cleanly, he can score.
Great day out there with the boys! 5-0 champs! pic.twitter.com/OvQrD4TKeE

Todd Nelson, Tesoro, WR
Tesoro showed moments of quality play Friday and moments where they didn’t look great. When I saw Tesoro gaining chunks of yardage or scoring, it was largely Nelson making the catch. He has decent size and isn’t afraid to go over the middle. The Titans were using four quarterbacks, primarily Gavin Shaigineik Gavin Shaigineik 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB Tesoro | 2023 State CA , and they all were looking for Nelson frequently.
Hunter Najm Hunter Najm 6'2" | 170 lbs | QB Aliso Niguel | 2024 State CA , Aliso Niguel, QB
Najm started shaky but got better as the day went on. In the team’s last game against Dana Hills he looked like the college prospect that he can be. He isn’t afraid to take chances with the ball and he has great touch on his deep throws. Aliso is young at receiver so they will have to scheme their guys open, but Najm has the accuracy and football IQ to move the ball down the field.
Great to be back on the field with my teammates at the CDM tournament yesterday @aliso_football @coachcalahan @remwass @DanSelwayQB @mikehuntley63 pic.twitter.com/3zEUSvUDt8

Aidan Houston, Cypress, QB
Houston is a transfer from Los Alamitos and he has played his way into a quarterback competition at Cypress with returning starter Elliot Lemonnier. He had some zip on his throws and is even better when throwing off-platform. He had a good grasp of the offense despite being new and not getting a lot of reps with these players. He enjoyed throwing to Monteleone and slot receiver Blake Cousimano who was a quarterback last season. Don’t be surprised if Houston is starting for Cypress in August.
