With that being said, you need someone who can lock down their side of the field in the secondary. The state of Kentucky is filled with a ton of talented players that fit that role. With that in mind, here are five incoming senior corners that stood out to me from a very talent-rich position group.
Marcus Floyd Marcus Floyd 5'9" | 160 lbs | DB Bourbon County | 2023 State KY Jr.| 5’10″, 160 lbs.| Bourbon County High School| Junior Year Film
Floyd is a player that is used in many different ways at Bourbon County. He has had success at corner, safety, nickel, and on offense as a wide receiver. However, I think he is at his best on the outside at corner. Floyd is terrific in man coverage with great mirror ability. When the ball is thrown his way, he shows great ball skills with the ability to adjust and break on the ball to come up with interceptions and break up passes. He also does a good job of providing support against the run as he is a very reliable open field tackler. Floyd currently holds an NAIA offer from Union College and I expect more to come with a strong summer and start to his senior season.
Evan Brown| 6’0″, 160 lbs.| Lexington Christian Academy| Junior Year Film
Brown is a big, athletic corner that will play a big role in Lexington Christian’s attempt to get back to the 2A State Championship Game. His quick feet, loose hips, and speed help him to mirror receivers with ease in man coverage. He does a great job of timing when breaking on the ball leading to interceptions and pass breakups. Once he sees the ball coming, he comes downhill in a hurry. If the ball gets to the receiver, Brown brings a ton of physicality, with a lot of his hits leading to dropped passes. He also sees some snaps at safety where he is able to use his speed to be a ball hawk on the back end. Brown currently holds an NAIA offer from Campbellsville University but I expect more to come his way as he has been playing 7 on 7 this summer for P2P 7v7 and should be able to take advantage of camp opportunities. His combination of size and athleticism at the corner spot should draw the attention from a ton of college coaches.
Cameron Wooten| 6’0″, 180 lbs.| Trinity High School| Junior Year Film
The first thing that stands out to me when watching Wooten’s film is his pure speed. This speed helps him to turn and run with receivers on the outside with ease. He has great technique in coverage with the ability to look and lean to react to the ball to break up passes on a consistent basis. Wooten also has great ball skills with the ability to break on the ball and come away with interceptions and deflect passes. He also does a great job of coming downhill after the ball is thrown to close in quickly and make tackles in the open field. His speed also helps him pose as a huge threat as a kickoff returner which could add value at the next level. Wooten currently holds an offer from Kentucky State and I fully expect more to start coming in for him.
Jakobe Biggerstaff Jakobe Biggerstaff 6'2" | 165 lbs | ATH Paul Laurence Dunbar | 2023 State KY | 6’2″, 175 lbs.| Paul Laurence Dunbar High School| Junior Year Film
Biggerstaff caught my eye quickly when watching his film as I am a sucker for long, athletic corners. He is a prototypical man coverage corner who has the speed to turn and run with receivers in the deep passing game and has the mirror ability to stay in their hip pocket all over the field. He also has great ball skills with the ability to read routes and break on the ball to come away with interceptions and break up passes. Biggerstaff also has seen some snaps at safety and is a dangerous deep threat wide receiver for the Bulldogs on offense. He is a three-sport athlete at Dunbar as he also runs track and plays basketball. Biggerstaff currently holds on NAIA offer from Union College but I expect more to come for him soon as he has been receiving a ton of interest from college programs and has been able to be seen on the 7 on 7 circuit this summer playing for GHE 7v7.
Augustin Nyembo| 5’10″, 165 lbs.| Bowling Green High School| Junior Year Film
Nyembo is yet another intriguing college prospect on a very talented Purples football team. He is coming off a solid junior year in which he finished with 33 solo tackles and one interception in nine games. Nyembo has outstanding reaction skills and uses his speed to break on passes in a hurry to break them up. If the ball is able to get to the receiver, Nyembo lays the wood as a tackler! His hard hits lead to dropped passes very frequently and make receivers think twice before trying to catch another pass against him. He also plays with a high motor, never giving up on a play, and is able to use his speed to run down ball carriers when they look like they are going to break away on a long touchdown. Nyembo also has some positional versatility as he has taken some snaps at safety as well. He currently holds an offer from Butler and many more should be coming his way as he has been receiving a ton of college interest and I believe he has the ability to play at the FCS level at the very least.
