We continue our look at underrated hog mollies around the state, and this week, we break down a powerful guard in Katy, a junior center in the small town of Colorado City, and an offensive tackle in Columbus who is making colleges take notice.
C Christian Ashby – 6’4″ 300 / Colorado HS — @ChristianAshb14 — Class of ’24
Ashby is a big prospect that plays both center and defensive tackle for the Wolves. He’s a big-body that flat out overpowers his opponent in the trenches, but he isn’t an elite athlete. I like the fact that he never gives up on a play and has a motor that’s always going. Does a nice job of chasing down runners when he has to. Very nice small program prospect.
G Jeremy Marshall – 6’4″ 320 / North Forney HS — @JeremyMarshal74
Marshall is a nice developmental prospect for a D3 or NAIA program. Looks raw on tape, but does a nice job of locking at the point of attack and giving his quarterback a clean pocket. Good enough athleticism to get to the second level. A potential steal for the right program that’s willing to take time to develop him.
OT Braylon Stewart – 6’4″ 305 / Arlington Heights HS — @BraylonStewart5
What immediately stands out about Stewart is the wide base he anchors with in his pass set. He gets inside hand placement and makes sure his quarterback stays clean. The area for improvement, however, is in the ground game. Has a tendency to get too vertical and lose leverage. Is able to recover with adequate upper body strength, but his game will improve tremendously once he gets more consistent with staying low and bending at the knees.
DT Daegan Stevens – 6’4″ 250 / Columbus HS — @DaeganStevens59 — Class of ’24
His district’s Defensive MVP from a season ago, Stevens is someone who must be accounted for each and every snap. Bulldozes guards at the 3A level and does a nice job of bending at the knees, penetrating his gap, and getting into the backfield. Flashes impressive sideline-to-sideline speed when chasing down a play. The junior is starting to work his way onto recruiting boards across the state. Plays offensive tackle for the Cardinals as well.
Has an offer from Texas A&M-Commerce.
G Jacob Egg – 6’2″ 275 / Katy HS — @JacobEgg2
A key member of one of the state’s most feared offensive line units, Egg dominates his opponents every Friday. Stout at the point of attack and fluid when working his way to the second level to take out the legs of linebackers, he should have a number of small school offers by season’s end.
