Continue ReadingThe Huskers had a busy weekend last weekend after hosting a Friday Night Lights camp, an Individual camp, and a 7v7 camp. These three camps brought a lot of talent from inside and outside the state to Lincoln to compete. For this feature I wanted to do a review of the different “Nebraska based” 7v7 teams. This includes school teams like Benson, Lincoln Southeast, Creighton Prep and 7v7 teams like NELITE 7v7 and the Lincoln Redwolves.
In this edition I’m going over my notes on the Creighton Prep 7v7 team. They started off a little spotty but rallied back and made it to the championship round of their division. I’m really glad I got to watch this group because they had a good mix of established players like CharMar Brown CharMar Brown 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Creighton Prep | 2023 State NE and John Pargo Jr John Pargo Jr 5'10" | 175 lbs | DB Creighton Prep | 2023 State NE . as well as young, hungry players like Zac McLeay Zac McLeay 6'0" | 185 lbs | DB Creighton Prep | 2024 State NE , Dean Donaldson Dean Donaldson 6'4" | 200 lbs | QB Lincoln North Star | 2024 State NE , etc. Check out which players stood out to me at the Huskers 7v7 camp.
CharMar Brown CharMar Brown 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Creighton Prep | 2023 State NE | RB | 6’0″ 200 lbs
- CharMar Brown CharMar Brown 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Creighton Prep | 2023 State NE goes into the 2022 season ranked as the top running back after a huge junior year.
- He is incredibly fast. His film speed is top-tier, but then you watch him in person and he moves so much faster than you thought.
- I have him as the top back based on his running ability alone but he also looked impressive as a receiving back at the camp.
- You can dump it off to him on screens and short routes and let him work his magic.
Dean Donaldson Dean Donaldson 6'4" | 200 lbs | QB Lincoln North Star | 2024 State NE | QB | 6’4″ 185 lbs
- Unfortunately, an injury cut Dean’s sophomore season short but it’s great to have him back on the field dicing up defenses.
- Dean does not look like he’s missed a step. He was throwing lasers all day and fitting the ball into tight windows.
- He stands tall in the pocket and works well through his mechanics.
- Really excited to see him back in pads this season. He’s currently on our 2024 watchlist but I’m expecting him to shoot up once we get more tape on him.
Ahmar Brown Ahmar Brown 6'1" | 185 lbs | LB Creighton Prep | 2023 State NE | LB/WR | 6’1″ 185 lbs
- Deep sleeper in the 2023 class!
- Ahmar is a player I feel is on the verge of a huge breakout season.
- He is a very reactive and instinctive linebacker that makes no wasted motions. He is deliberate with what he does.
- He hits his gaps hard when needed and is sticky in coverage when asked to drop back.
John Pargo Jr John Pargo Jr 5'10" | 175 lbs | DB Creighton Prep | 2023 State NE . | DB | 5’10″ 180 lbs
- John is one of the top DBs in the state and I definitely saw why at the 7v7 camp.
- Pargo uses his hands extremely well and can sneak his hands in between the ball and the receiver to knock it loose.
- I thought John was also very explosive as a wide receiver. He took many ankles with his sharp cuts and breakaway speed.
- Very impressive looking athlete.
Ed Hubner | WR
- Ed is a player that I believe earned a spot on the 2023 rankings in the next update.
- Hubner is a reliable pass catcher with big mitts. He was often looked at on crucial downs.
- Saw a lot of good reps from Ed even when the ball wasn’t coming his way. Clean routes and he can create separation.
George Egan George Egan 6'1" | 215 lbs | LB Creighton Prep | 2023 State NE | LB | 6’1″ 215 lbs
- George typically plays FB and helped lead block for one of the more devastating rushing attacks in Class A.
- I really like his potential at linebacker. He’s has a solid build and at 6’1″ 215 pounds he’s going to deliver a hard hit no matter what.
- He was very vocal on defense and as you can see below, Egan does a great job reading offense and calling out adjustments. Granted it’s only 7v7, but this communication and leadership definitely translates to real game situations.
- George moves swiftly in space and can close gaps between himself and the receiver.
Zac McLeay Zac McLeay 6'0" | 185 lbs | DB Creighton Prep | 2024 State NE (2024) | DB/ATH | 6’0″ 180 lbs
- Great athlete with natural instincts in coverage.
- Physical and can contest catches when the ball is in the air.
- Zac is only going into his junior year so he’s still raw, but shows lots of flashes on the defensive side.
- Watch out for him possibly being used as a WR.
