Raheim Jeter Raheim Jeter 6'3" | 220 lbs | QB Spartanburg | 2023 State SC was here at Coastal Carolina’s Brooks Stadium to have fun and prove that he was back. The Spartanburg quarterback and West Virginia commitment – with his with his NASCAR-inspired Under Armour cleats and that lower leg scar plenty visible – checked every box during the Vikings’ championship run through CCU’s Ball at the Beach 7-on-7 tournament on Thursday.
So, as time ticked down in Spartanburg’s final win over the day, over Winter Park (Fla.), his answer to a simple question (“How are you feeling?”) was pretty clear.
“I’m good,” he said. “We’re about to win a championship.”
Jeter, the No. 5 overall player in Prep Red Zone’s Class of 2023 rankings, was on fire during pool play. The team’s quick-strike offense gave him plenty of opportunities to air it out on deep threats. He wasn’t perfect, but considering his February incident, when he was shot during what was described as a road rage incident, and the increasing heat bearing down at Brooks, he was plenty good enough.
After all, Jeter’s squad played eight 22-minute sessions between approximately 1 p.m.-6 p.m. The temperature was never south of 92 degrees, and Coastal’s synthetic turf made it much hotter.
Yet, here was Jeter, connecting with receiver after receiver all day.
It was as positive a football sign as Jeter has given his staff and coaches since returning to the team post-surgery.
MORE REASONS THE VIKINGS WON
Fellow Spartanburg players Bennie Littlejohn and Que Moore were among the other Vikings who showed they weren’t taking the event lightly.
In Littlejohn, coach Mark Hodge has a dynamic linebacker who showed just how valuable he is in space. One of the first plays we witnessed Thursday, for instance, was the 5-foot-8, 210-pounder clearing an opposing receiver out of the air on a short comeback route. He then repeated the play at least two more times (that we noticed) against other teams. Littlejohn is a powerful tackler built low to the ground, but don’t let his height deceive you. He may very well end up as one of the better linebackers in the state by the time his senior year comes around in 2023.
Moore, a receiver, was all over the place Thursday. The receiver at times looked like Jeter’s favorite target, and he showed a keen ability to know exactly where he was on the field all day. He made several catches while making sure to get both feet down. What’s more, after suffering a cut on his arm and needing some quick medical attention, he bounced back and missed just one series.
