The purpose was to give a platform for some of the top athletes in the Carolinas directly to multiple historically black colleges and universities. Over 30 colleges and universities were in attendance with a total of 87 coaches including 8 HBCU Head Coaches. The event was a landmark success for putting players in the Carolinas on a pedestal, led by Charlotte Football Insiders.
The talent was immense among the quarterbacks in action, with the Top 5 displaying some elite abilities in multiple areas.
Anshon Camp Anshon Camp 5'10" | 165 lbs | QB Chambers | 2023 State NC , Class of 2023, of Chambers High School garnered much attention. From his incredible fluidity in agility drills and speed reflected in some of the change of direction drills, college coaches were impressed by his dual-threat capabilities. Camp also displayed a strong arm in 1-on-1s and beautiful touch on several deep passes completed to multiple receivers. Expect Camp’s recruitment to grow as we get close to the start of the 2022 season.
Elijah Tillery Elijah Tillery 6'6" | 185 lbs | QB Draughn | 2024 State NC , Class of 2024, of Draughn High School, turned heads just by his physical frame. Standing at 6’5, Tillery has a ton of Division 1 and Power 5 interest. His performance at this showcase led to a Division 1 offer from Mississippi Valley State University. Tillery moves with grace and ease throughout agility drills, and once he adds weight to his body, you can see why so many schools at the next level are excited about his potential. He displayed great accuracy in 1-on-1s and put the ball in some great places where his receivers could make plays on a consistent basis.
Daylin Lee, Class of 2023, of Shelby High School had a great performance. He is a strong pocket quarterback standing at 6’3 who has started to pick up interest on the recruiting trail – he holds an offer from Catawba College and picked up a Division 1 offer from Mississippi Valley State after a great performance in this showcase. Lee is a big-time winner, having been a two-time state champion at a perennial powerhouse in the Golden Lions. As a player, he has great arm strength and accuracy in a pass-first offense. He also has shown the ability to run when he needs to, but he is deadly when given time to throw in the pocket. Expect Lee to continue to rack up offers now that he’s on the map with a couple heading into the 2022 season.
Napoleon Ellison and Charlie Smith did not come into this camp as known commodities like the previous 3 quarterbacks mentioned, yet they stepped on the big stage and earned Top 5 status. Ellison, from Portsmouth Christian School in Virginia, is a bit smaller in stature at 6 feet tall, but as a 2024 prospect he really stood out throwing in-breaking routes with great timing and precision. Smith as a 2025 prospect is intriguing for Charlotte Latin School. He is already listed at 6’1 and 175 pounds and shows some very good arm strength and confidence. He will be a name to watch over the next coming years in the Charlotte Metro Area.
