It also is an opportunity for young guys to get reps who have little to no varsity or game experience in high school. We took a spring tour in Louisiana to look at prospects and to find hidden gems and our first set of schools came from Southwest Louisiana. Our first stop was at Acadiana High School. Acadiana is always in the mix to win state championships and has 6 in its trophy case. The first thing that comes to mind when watching the way the Wreckin Rams practice is physical toughness. The 2022 version of the rams is young in some areas, but they are super talented. Acadiana will rely on the experience of some older guys mixed with some young dynamic playmakers to make a run at its 7th state title. The offensive scheme that Acadiana runs is the Split-Back Veer and it gives defensive coordinators fits and makes it hard to prepare for. Acadiana has been the leader in the Acadiana Area in sending prospects to college and also having student-athletes make a significant impact on their respective teams.
IMPACT PLAYERS:
Russell Babineaux Jr.- 2025 WR/RB that made a huge impact as a freshman and is a sure-fire Elite Power 5 prospect. Babineaux doesn’t need much space in the open field and is a threat to take it to the house anytime he has the ball in his hands. Look for coach Matt McCullough to have a few wrinkles in place this fall for the rising sophomore. What stands out the most is the character and maturity of this young student-athlete and when you look at the lower half of Babineaux, you can quickly see where his above average play speed and short area quickness comes from. Russell Babineaux Jr. currently has 4 offers from Florida State, LSU, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State.
Jaylen Lawrence Jaylen Lawrence 6'1" | 205 lbs | LB Acadiana | 2023 LA – Lawrence comes in as the #5 ranked linebacker in the class of 2023 in Louisiana. This rising senior prospect is explosive with 4.5 speed and will run through offensive guys on tackles. One of his very first plays during the spring is him running over an offensive lineman and then destroying the running back. We were able to see his cover skills and physicality this spring when he lined up with his 7v7 team 4th Quarter Mentality. This prospect has offers from Arkansas State, McNeese St., University of Incarnate Word, Nicholls State, Northwestern State, Alcorn State, and Southeast Missouri State. Look for more teams to jump in the mix after Lawrence’s first 3 senior games this fall.
Dominick McKinley- A rising junior DT and is massive in stature at 6’5, 275. With his size, length, and athleticism, McKinley is able to disengage and shed blockers at the Point of Attack. To get the big boys to jump on the boat in his recruitment, he will have to show more physicality on film. With two seasons remaining of high school, when this kid puts it together he will be a national recruit. McKinley currently holds offers from University of Houston and Arkansas State.
Keven Williams Keven Williams 5'9" | 170 lbs | RB Acadiana | 2023 State LA – A rising senior RB prospect who is the son of former LSU and NFL Washington Commanders standout Keiland Williams. This prospect is a down hill runner and has the ability to make you miss in the hole. Williams is one of those senior leaders that Acadiana will rely in the 2022 campaign. Williams currently holds an offer from HBCU Powerhouse Alcorn State.
Desmond Alexander- This rising junior prospect is very intriguing. This fall Alexander will get his first varsity experience at defensive back. If Desmond continues to develop he can become a playmaker on the defensive side of the ball with his A+ ball skills.
Bryson Charles- Charles will be a senior this fall and will have a huge role for the Wreckin Rams on defense at Linebacker and Special Teams. Although small in stature, he makes up for it with his football intelligence, toughness, and work ethic. Fall camp will be huge for Charles and he will be in the mix to be a starter if he continues to develop and be consistent like he has been throughout the spring. This is a confident kid who isn’t afraid to to stick his nose in action and hit people.
WILD CARD:
2024 RB Cameron Monette– This rising junior prospect has explosive speed and is one of the 3 fastest kids on his team. When he gets his opportunity this fall, it will be hard to keep this prospect off the field. We have seen him at a few camps so far and he has been making big time plays against quality competition. With his continued development, Monette could play a huge role in the rams state championship run.
