Continue ReadingIt was hot, and when I say hot, I mean hot. There was an excessive heat warning and according to the local weather people the real temperature was around 95 degrees and the feels like temperature was in the 105-110 degree range. I didn’t hear one kid or coach complain about the heat however.
2024 OT Luke Hamilton Luke Hamilton 6'6" | 290 lbs | OL Avon | 2024 State OH (Avon) 6’6 290- Hamilton is our #1 offensive lineman and #1 overall player in the 2024 class. Hamilton is athletic and explosive for a young man of his size. The first 10 yards of his 40 and the part that matters most for offensive linemen was really impressive. In his 1 v 1’s he won the majority of his reps. The thing is I think Luke doesn’t really know how good can be. Once or twice when he got beat it was just a matter of not trusting his feet/ability and oversetting. This is easily correctable. The size and talent of Hamilton, is not easily found. He has offers from 10+ power 5’s . This offseason and fall should continue to see him build momentum in his recruiting process and he’ll have plenty of P5 options to choose from.
2024 QB Terry Collins (Toledo Central Catholic) 6’2 170- Collins is a young man that wasn’t ever on my radar. I walked into the Woody Hayes Athletic Center and started watching some of the QB’s and I noticed a tall slender quarterback slinging the ball around. Collins has a live arm and did a good job of locating his deep throws. He has a quick and effortless motion that will cut down on the amount of time it takes for the ball to come out. He likely has a season of backing up Tywan Clark, but hopefully he can continue to develop in those practice reps that he gets. I’m interested to see him grow and fill-out and how his arm strength and velocity get a bump.
2025 TE/DE Caden Piening Caden Piening 6'4" | 230 lbs | TE Anderson | 2025 State OH (Anderson) 6’4 225- Piening is a young man I’ve had my eye on since last offseason. He’s explosive and he’s a fluid athlete. If you play receiver or tight end at Ohio State you’re going to block, and that was right where offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson started with the TE’s. Caden showed good functional strength and blocking ability to go with the athleticism. With his combo of size and athleticism it’s not hard to see why P5 schools like Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia have offered Piening. The sky is the limit with this young man.
2023 OG Braylon Smith (Glenville) 6’4 315- Braylon did a good job on the day. He’s stout at the point of attack. His feet are good. Because of his strength and body type I like Braylon as an offensive guard. To go with his strong feet he also, balances well, and uses his strength to stalemate defensive linemen at the point of attack. He won most of his reps on the day. I like Braylon as a D1 FCS- D1 mid-major.
2023 OT Phillip Daniels (Princeton) 6’5 288- Daniels had a really strong day. He was consistently coached up by Ohio State Offensive line coach Justin Frye. Frye picked and chose the best talent the camp had to offer to match up against Phillip and he won almost every rep Daniels has good feet, length, and a punch that he uses well. Daniels has offers from Minnesota, Purdue, and Pitt among others. Will he get an offer from OSU? They seemed interested, so we’ll see!
2024 OT Gabe Funk (Xenia) 6’6 275- Funk is another player that was not on my radar before the Ohio State camp. He has good size, athleticism, and feet. He seemed a little unsure of himself, but he has the ability. If he trust his footspeed and technique, he’s going to do some damage versus opposing defensive ends.
