I introduce you all to, Donjae Knox, who will attend Eagan High School in the coming years as a prospect to watch.
We at Prep Redzone Next, learned about Donjae a few weeks back at one of our Prep Hoops Next Circuit events. The first ever look I had on this young man? This dude is going has to be a solid wide receiver in the near future and is STILL growing at a rapid pace. Already nearly 6’1, Donjae showed a heavy motor that didn’t turn off in by viewing of him on the basketball court, and I can assure you that motor translates well to the gridiron too, with his speed from baseline to baseline he showed as well. We caught up with Donjae last week to do an Q/A to talk about his talents with the game of football rising.
Brief Intro
Donjae Knox is a 6’1 155 pound wide receiver from Eagan, Minn that plays with sound determination in whatever sport he plays as a multi-sport athlete, something we love to see as evaluators.
Strengths & Developments
Donjae excels on the gridiron with multiple skillsets he brings to the table, with number one being his route running, as he runs solid routes for his age as an 8th grader to be. He also has glue hands and shows a lot of athleticism when the ball is thrown in his area. Donjae’s biggest development comes with the growth he is getting from his lower body, as he does well getting yards after the catch, but can improve on his speed after the catch as in the 2021 season he had some burn in his knees with just how fast he’s growing rapidly. He showed on the hardwood however, mobility that stuck out like a sore thumb and a big motor that just keeps on churning.
The Separation
Donjae said what separates him from his peers is the height he has going up against smaller secondaries and his vertical to go up and get the ball is intriguing. We have to mention how solid his hands are too as even on the court, he caught some long passes that took great awareness to pull all the way thru.
The College Pitch
One of my favorites questions to ask football prospects is how they sell themselves with their game. Donjae’s pitch to the college coaches subscribing to Prep Redzone Next is they would be getting a high energy wide prospect that has a strong work ethic to match. He showed me on the court just this, a kid that plays with a chip on his shoulder and is highly competitive and ready to get out there and compete each and every day on the field.
Time Will Tell
Donjae Knox has played the game of football for six years already and has been a swiss-army knife wherever he gets lined up for Eagan. He’s played on both sides of the ball, which gives him the football IQ to understand plenty of aspects of reading what the defense gives him beyond just being able to play his WR position. He’s also played cornerback and linebacker.
Donjae’s Mentor and How He Started his Love of the Game of Football
Donjae gives his love of football to his dad, as all the years of watching Super Bowl Sunday, motivated him to become the player he is today and how he can grow with his development he has brewing in the City of Eagan.
The Upcoming 2022 Season
Donjae says he looks forward to his 2022 season in Eagan, as a WR prospect that knows when to turn on the jets with his comes to his competitive nature. He knows that the game of football is a lot of fun and being able to understand the game while still having fun is important to him as we look at the Fall 2022 season. He also will continue being a motivator, on getting his teammates to own their craft on the gridiron as well.
Donjae Knox is for sure a name in 2027 to watch blossom over the coming years as I for sure believe he has a very bright future on the football field.
