In particular, we are very excited to witness the future success, and performances of those who play the receiver position. Because the talent within this position group all across the state is incredibly deep, we have very high expectations, and firmly believe that various prospects will play themselves into even more power 5 opportunities. Below, feel free to take a look at some of the players that come to mind when we first think of this.
Zion Taylor Zion Taylor 6'1" | 185 lbs | WR Norcross | 2023 State GA – Norcross
Perhaps one of the things that stands out most about Taylor’s game is his continuous ability to grow, and adapt as his physical frame and body develops. As he continues to put on weight, and add on to his speed and explosiveness, we have no doubt that Taylor will continue to be a huge key to Norcross’ success next season. Not only does he get in and out of his breaks quickly, but he changes direction effectively. He also plays with great body control, and he breaks down well on his routes, allowing for clean transitions in his movement, and when he stacks defenders, or comes back to the football. Along with this, we also love the way that Taylor uses his length as a way to gain leverage, which is already a stand out trait in his game.
Christian Mathis Christian Mathis 5'9" | 170 lbs | WR Marietta | 2023 State GA – Marietta
When watching his tape, it is evident that Mathis is one of the better route runners in the state of Georgia, and within his class as a whole. Off of the ball, he uses his feet, hands, and body as leverage to position himself well on routes, which is a reflection of good coaching. Mathis also does a good job of high pointing the football, and catching it with clean hands, which is one of the most consistent parts of his game. We also like the way that Mathis plays with great speed, and overall burst, which translates to and explosive style of play. Expect this upcoming season to be huge for him.
Deadndre Buchannon- Carver Atlanta
As the summer progresses, Buchannon has begun to gain even more offers from notable programs throughout the entire country. Perhaps it is because he is showing out every chance that he gets during offseason camps, etc, but this is also due to film that Buchannon puts out that more than likely supports any camp performance that he may have. On tape, Buchannon displays his ability to control his body extremely well, and to be able to get in and out of his breaks with little wasted movement. He has also shown to be a very strong route runner who has little trouble catching the football with clean hands, and in tough situations. Along with this, Buchannon also plays with great body control, and understands the technical side of the game when it comes to route running. Expect the 2022 football season to be huge for any future that he may have in the game of football.
Paul Davis Paul Davis 6'0" | 175 lbs | WR Hart County | 2023 State GA – Hart County
When watching the tape on each of the players on this list, it is evident that while Paul may not be the most twitchy, and shifty player on this list, he still happens to be one of the most explosive, and fast players. To start, Davis gets in and out of his breaks quickly, and always finds ways to push through contact and gain yards after the catch. Davis also plays the game of football with good eyes, and body control, allowing him to make catches from various angles, and in very seemingly tough situations. With this, it can also be seen that Davis catches the ball with clean hands, and does not bobble the ball. As next season progresses, expect him to show out, and to wind down on where he wants to play football at the next level.
