In a state that runs the ball consistently, you won’t win many games if you don’t have strong, physical linebackers. The peach state is filled with impactful linebackers and many of them are emerging in the 2024 class.
Here are some 2024 linebackers who are seeing their stock rise…
Wendell Gregory Wendell Gregory 6'4" | 215 lbs | DB Walton | 2024 State GA – Walton
One of the fastest-rising linebackers all across Georgia, Gregory is an explosive defender who has the ability to blow up any particular play. He has a long frame at 6-foot-4 215-pounds and he’s only going to get bigger and stronger over time. He really came on last year and you could see him getting better and better. When you turn on the film, it’s easy to see why he’s earning new offers by the week. Only a sophomore, Gregory made plays last year that made him look like an upperclassman. He’s reliable in coverage and can play some safety too if the Raiders need him there. He’s a promising defender with a chance to double his tackle total next year as a junior. So far, Gregory holds offers from Michigan, Virginia Tech. North Carolina, Michigan State, among others.
Devin Smith Devin Smith 6'3" | 215 lbs | LB Brunswick | 2024 State GA – Brunswick
An impressive pass-rushing outside linebacker in South Georgia, Smith was one of the most productive linebackers in the area as a sophomore last season, making 61 tackles, 16 TFLs, and six sacks, leading the team. He has a long frame at 6-foot-3 215-pounds and is quick off the snap. He lived in the backfield last year and knows how to really pursue the ball carrier. He wraps up well and knows how to strike. Smith plays fast, gets off blocks on a consistent basis, and always finds his way to the ball. He was consistently one of the better players on Brunswick’s roster last year, and he did it as a sophomore. He appears to have D1 talent, and he’s bound for a gigantic junior season for the Pirates. Smith is currently ranked as the No. 14 linebacker prospect in Georgia in the newest 2024 Rankings.
Jerrod Steward Jerrod Steward 6'1" | 220 lbs | LB Swainsboro | 2024 State GA – Swainsboro
One of the most productive linebackers across Georgia last year, Steward certainly didn’t play like a sophomore as he tackled just about everything in sight last year. He came to play each week and made tackle after tackle each Friday night. An impressive-looking prospect from a physical standpoint, Steward is listed as 6-foot-1 220-pounds and brings a physical presence to the Tigers’ defense. A heavy-hitter who doesn’t miss tackles, Steward tallied 148 tackles last year for an average of 10.6 tackler per game. He does a good job of controlling the middle of the field and proved he’s a downhill linebacker who excels against the run. His best game last year came against East Laurens where he made 20 tackles. He made 10+ tackles in 8 games last year and he’s bound for a major junior season this year.
