Who are the best defensive linemen to know about in Savannah?
Prep Redzone takes a look…
Tavion Gadson – Jenkins
One of the fastest-rising defensive linemen in Georgia, Gadson is a quick, powerful EDGE defender with plenty of size for the position at 6-foot-4 280-pounds. He moves extremely well for his size and was almost unblockable last season for the Warriors in 4A. He was one of the most productive defensive linemen in the area last fall, making 60 tackles, 9 sacks and 25 TFLs to go along with three forced fumbles. He was too big and quick for opposing linemen and he’s versatile enough to play multiple positions on the line. He’s a force on the EDGE, but as he continues to put on more muscle and mass, he has a chance to slide inside at the next level. He’s strength allowed him to shed blocks with ease, and he shows a great motor when getting after the ball carrier. He will quickly rise in the 2023 rankings when the next update comes around.
Terry Simmons Terry Simmons 6'2" | 300 lbs | DL Calvary Day | 2023 State GA – Calvary Day
A big, versatile defensive lineman with impressive quickness off the snap, Simmons proved to be one of the top defensive linemen in the Savannah area last year after a dominant junior season. At 6-foot-2 300-pounds, Simmons lived in the backfield last year for Calvary Day, making 67 tackles, 22 TFLs, 4 sacks and 12 QB hits. He’s a hard hitter and he’s someone who can play all over the defensive line. He’s quick on the interior and knows how to get into the backfield with ease. He was a bully at times who threw away opposing linemen with ease in single-A private last year. He won’t be going up against that type of competition at the next level, but he absolutely dominated opposing linemen in the region on a weekly basis. He holds offers from Duke, Georgia Tech, UCF, among others, and plans to make a commitment on June 25th.
Kameron Cody – Benedictine
He may not be one of the best in Savannah just yet, but the promising 2026 defender is still a prospect with a lot of promise who has a chance to make a big impact as a freshman this fall. A very impressive 2026 prospect, Cody already looks like a high school veteran with plenty of size for his age at 6-foot-3 280-pounds. He can already bench press 315-pounds and can dunk a basketball on the court. He’s incredibly athletic for his age and has been tearing it up during camp season this month. He shows quick feet and already shows a promising pass rush for his age. He’s certainly a 2026 prospect to know about for the next several years.
Lorenzo Cowan – Jenkins
Another standout defender from Jenkins High School, Cowan is an athletic EDGE defender who showed explosiveness off the ball. He has a long frame at 6-foot-3 220-pounds with the ability to add even more muscle over the next two years. A promising 2024 defender, Cowan gets into the backfield with ease and can play standing up or with his hand in the dirt. He can get after the passer, but when he doesn’t get there, he’s athletic enough to get up and deflect the pass away. He flashes consistently for someone his age, and if he stays healthy, he has a chance to have a breakout junior season this fall. His frame and limited film from last year has already led to offers from Kentucky, Minnesota, Duke, USF, among others. It’s easy to see his potential, and he’s someone to will climb the 2024 Prep Redzone rankings over time.
