But, there is also plenty of solid football prospects up there too, as the standout list of prospects continues into Part II from the Bulldogs Prospect Camp last Monday. These five standouts made enough noise to roll into Part II of our standouts below!
Malaki Bachan Malaki Bachan 6'2" | 220 lbs | OL Little Falls | 2023 MN | DL | Little Falls (MN) | 2023
The first look I got at Malaki was just how chopped his lower body was as we started the reps at the UMD Prospect Camp. He wasn’t the quickest defensive linemen I saw off the ball, but this young man proved to be a workhorse for the duration of the Bulldogs camp. Need to get some tape or another live evaluation on this 320 prospect this summer as his 6’2 230 pound frame is showed looks to be an under the radar defensive line prospect from the Little Falls Flyers with a big senior year inbound. Would make a solid small-school prospect in my eyes from what I glimpsed from in Duluth.
Oliver O’brien Oliver O’brien 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Waseca | 2023 MN | QB/DB | Waseca (MN) | 2023
I certainly saw the athletic gene that Oliver possesses at the Bulldogs prospect camp. Oliver ran in the > 4.8s from what I overheard and showed good mobility in his 1v1 reps I caught. I think that athletic gene makes a little more pop for me in the secondary or in a WR spot at the next level. When you get deeper into his tape, he makes a strongly athletic interception with significant high-top ability and electric hands that I would grade out near a 10/10. He does though, have a significant deep ball that shows off some solid touch and great ball placement to go along with it. He certainly has an increased game speed vs. what he tested in Duluth, as he’s another Southern MN prospect that plays with another gear when it hits game time. Oliver has had a good last week with college football opportunities, with an added offer at the Division III level. I hope to see more traction with this young man especially at the MIAC and WIAC level and above at the Division II level.
Kaden Robbins | RB | Moose Lake-Willow River (MN) | 2024
I was a huge fan of Kaden for the duration of the Bulldogs camp last Monday afternoon. This young man showed an electric burst that showed off quite well for just an incoming junior. He also showed effectiveness with his multi-level cutting ability, as he was able to gain separation with that skillset at hand. His tape shows a lot of downhill durability that can shed off blockers and also has patient vision to wait for the gap to open up even when he gets beyond the second level which is a tough itch for some RBs to remain patient with. On the other side of the ball, Kaden has the closing in speed to cause havoc in the secondary as he processes again downhill with the ball in hand for six.
Jordan Karras Jordan Karras 5'11" | 180 lbs | WR River Falls | 2023 State WI | WR| River Falls (WI) |2023
If there is one thing that I know about Jordan as a multiple time alumni of our Prep Redzone Showcases. is each time I check into reading his development and he’s gotten faster and faster each time. I believe he came in as a 4.7 40 wide receiver a few Prep Redzone Showcases ago (7 months ago) and from what I heard in Duluth, he had grown into the low 4.5s which shows me that this kid has been working hard this spring with his speed and agility. Based on Jordan’s tape, you can see the speed pop out especially as a huge asset for the Wildcats. I think where he needs to develop is his separation with his route-running, as I believe he needs more splash in his routes to get more depth when it comes to his separation. Jordan certainly has the speed & burst, he just needs to work on his agility. Of course, since I have seen him take .2 seconds off his time in the last 6 months or so, I am sure once we roll into the 2022 season we will see more big opportunities in building that separation. Expect a booming senior season for this young man.
Luke Sedin
Luke
Sedin
6'3" | 195 lbs | QB
Northwestern | 2023
State
WI
| QB | Maple Northwestern (WI) | 2023
Luke was one of the most accurate QBs on the day in Duluth as he really struck a chord with me when I watched him in Indy drills later in the afternoon. If you weren’t in Duluth, we had wind and cooler weather which is known to cause frustration amongst QBs especially on shorter and intermediate routes, but not for Luke. Luke showed pinpoint accuracy with his ball placement landing the football in the plethora of the target posted up. Luke has an absolute cannon of a deep ball based off his junior tape. If I was the baseball coach of the Tigers, I would want this kid as an outfielder in 2022. He’s got some development with his mechanics but legit 6’3 quarterbacks don’t come along in this part of NW Wisconsin offer, so I would take a strong look at Luke on this camp circuit. Might I add, he also has a 3.7 GPA academically and has been a workhorse at every camp I have been at this summer.
