Charlotte has become the premier area in the state of North Carolina when it comes to producing a large volume of college players, and these players hope to jump on the radar of college coaches this upcoming season.
Justin Wheeler Justin Wheeler 6'0" | 175 lbs | QB Charlotte Latin | 2023 State NC – Mallard Creek – Class of 2023
Justin played his first three years at Charlotte Latin – a private school located in Charlotte but has elected to move over to Mallard Creek for his senior year. At 6’0 and 185 pounds, I have seen Justin up close the past couple of years and the thing I love about him is his accuracy with the football – he consistently puts the ball in places where his receivers can exclusively make plays – whether it’s a jump ball to the back pylon of the end zone, or a drag route over the middle where his receiver can catch and run. Justin also can run – while not exclusively a dual-threat QB, he is someone that has to be accounted for when he does break the pocket. He has some good weapons at Mallard Creek, and it will be interesting to see how he progresses with them this season.
Demetrius Hargroves – Berry – Class of 2023
At 6’5 and 190 pounds, Demetrius is a true dual-threat quarterback in every sense of the word. Colleges will definitely be intrigued by his size and athletic ability. He is stepping into a role where he will be a big part of the Cardinals’ offense so he should have a chance to put some good film out there early in his senior year to help spark his recruitment to another level. He displays a strong arm and has a very nice deep ball to connect with some athletic receivers in the Cardinal attack. He has also shown the ability to have big gains with some shake in running the ball from the QB position.
Jarek Patulski – Palisades – Class of 2024
Jarek is one of the most dedicated and hardworking kids I have covered over the past couple of years. He has shown consistent improvement over the past couple of years, is moving over to a brand new high school in the Palisades Pumas, and projects to be the first QB in school history. Jarek is a good pocket quarterback that can carve up a defense if he is given the time upfront to do so. He has very good accuracy – especially on out-breaking routes from the times I have seen him in person and at multiple camps throughout the years. As he is able to get some varsity tape this season, I would expect Jarek to start garnering college interest pretty quickly.
Jaemyn Smith – Myers Park – Class of 2023
Jaemyn is stepping into a good situation in his senior year with the Mustangs. The Mustangs have a new head coach who is known for some good offenses in his past, so he should be put into a place to succeed. Jaemyn does have some dual-threat ability and displays a strong arm to throw the ball down the field, but he will be stepping into some big shoes to replace a very talented player lost to graduation. The key to Jaemyn’s success will be getting the ball out fast and trusting some talented skill players to make plays after the catch to keep the chains moving.
Bocar Ly – North Meck – Class of 2023
Bocar will be a player that has to jump onto the recruiting stage late in the process. He’s a 6’3 player that has some good weight on his frame, so college coaches will love that about him from the start. He’s definitely a dual-threat QB that will have the chance to show what he can do from the pocket this season. North Meck is an up-and-coming program within Charlotte, and I think they will go as far as this young man can take them at the QB position. I’m excited to see what Bocar does with the opportunity ahead of him here.
