As we took a look at the camp list of attendees, we wanted to get some quick evaluations out there before we get on the road tomorrow morning to Jamestown of prospects we will be keeping tabs on, along with many more that will make splashes with the skillsets they show tomorrow at camp. Here are the 10 prospects to keep an eye on before tomorrow!
John Vetter | Hawley (MN) | 2023
John is a power backer/linebacker I look forward to watching in Jamestown tomorrow. Shows some bouncy footwork for his 6’2 220 pound size that is fun to watch on tape on the inside lanes. From the middle linebacker spot he shows a tenacious vision to work thru small gaps to cause havoc into the backfield. Certainly sells me as a next-level linebacker due to his physicality level and run stuffing ability early in the first level of the field, so I will be intrigued tomorrow where John lines up tomorrow at the Jimmies Camp.
Tyler Holdeman Tyler Holdeman 6'2" | 200 lbs | DL Velva | 2023 State | DL | Velva (ND) | 2023
Tyler showed a bolt of physicality last winter at our Prep Redzone Dakotas Camp in Fargo, so I am intrigued to see how much he has turned up his skillsets since last December when I got my first live evaluation on him. He shows some solid gas off the snap to create plenty of attention into the backfield and shows off some violent hands that would look great off the EDGE at the next level. Based on what I saw on tape today, Tyler is for sure a stockriser in our 2023 rankings as his explosion is a blast to watch on tape.
Payton Hochhalter Payton Hochhalter 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Jamestown | 2023 State | QB | Jamestown (ND) | 2023
One of the top QBs in North Dakota in my eyes, Payton is a proven-winner that showed me a ton during the state championship game last season in Fargo. His poise in the pocket is one of the skillsets that was obvious to the naked eye as he could evade pressure well with his athletic mobility. I like the way Payton uses his vision as well, as he can make multiple reads with his eyes without overselling it. Payton shows off a quick release that gets out really quickly. Certainly looking to forward to seeing his development from last December in full circle in Jamestown.
Payton McGregor Payton McGregor 5'8" | 160 lbs | WR West Fargo | 2023 State | ATH | West Fargo (ND) | 2023
Payton’s awareness is what sticks out majorly on tape, as he shows ample ability to adjust to his QBs throws when the ball is slightly off line and he needs to make a key play. He’s a swiss-army knife on all three levels of the field, as he shows a solid contact level for his size as a deep safety that can make a quick jump to the ball, and has some athletic moves he can use as a punt returner. Mobile with his change of direction, as I hope to see even more development from when I watched him last season in the 11AA championship game and our Prep Redzone Dakotas Showcase. High character young man that will do whatever it takes for his Packers to win.
Karson Lindsay Karson Lindsay 5'11" | 190 lbs | ATH Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton | 2023 State MN | ATH | Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton (MN) | 2023
Karson is for sure the most scouted prospect I will be watching a bunch tomorrow in Jamestown. Another prospect on this list that has A+ character as already a 3-time team captain, and will help his Bulldogs squad in whatever way possible anywhere on the field on both ends of the ball. I remember when Karson took over as QB for JWP a couple years back and watching his tape now, I love to see his improvement especially with the significant touch he has added on his ball on short and intermediate routes. Defensively, he adds a guaranteed tackle on first contact and a mouthful of physicality to match. I have said it for a few years now, Karson certainly has the tools to play scholarship-level football, and not too many prospects I could say those same words at multiple positions.
Tristen Hoffard Tristen Hoffard 6'3" | 240 lbs | OL Pequot Lakes | 2023 MN | OL | Pequot Lakes (MN) | 2023
Tristen excels nicely in pass-protection as he does a sound job of sealing the outside off to get his positioning steady. He shows physicality to take his defender to the turf if he tries to sneak in low on him. I love watching his skillsets come thru when he comes out of his stance on a pull-block as he shows a quick jump that is fascinating to watch and I would love to see more consistency with it in 2022 as it’s his best asset and shows his foot speed a ton more. His pad level to attack the angles of his defender is very consistent, as he shows great awareness on where to attack based on the direction of where his offense is headed. A first look prospect for me that I look forward to tuning into watch tomorrow in Jamestown.
Jacob Van Lith | OLB | South O’Brien (IA) | 2023
Jacob is an Iowa prospect I look forward to watching tomorrow in Jamestown after I have broken down his tape tonight. He is a quite reactive outside linebacker that shows reactive vision cutting to the ball when the play is there. He also shows an athletic vertical in pass coverage to get some height when needed. His pass coverage for an outside linebacker is great to watch, but let’s not forget about his smash-mouth downhill attack into the backfield as this kid shows TONS of physicality to cause havoc on the ball carrier and it shows persistent throughout his tape. He plays a lot bigger than his 6’0 175 pound frame and I cannot watch to watch what he brings out in Jamestown tomorrow as a small-school sleeper out of Iowa with a couple of offers under his belt already.
Trayvaughn Lee Trayvaughn Lee 6'0" | 175 lbs | WR Cass Lake-Bena Secondary | 2023 MN | Cass Lake-Bena (MN) | 2023
TrayVaughn is a sound athlete that caught my attention on the offensive side of the ball the most. He shows good hands on multiple levels of his routes and can make high-traffic catches with great determination. His ability to use his vision at linebacker to presently be usually the first line of contact also makes him an asset on the defensive end of the ball. TrayVaughn also shows a good reach for his size, as he’s able to make sound contact with the ball carrier even if he’s slightly trending away from him. Excited to see what this young man can do tomorrow as a first look live evaluation for Prep Redzone in Jamestown.
