No matter what position, there are enough players to fill hundreds of college football rosters across the country.
While receivers and defensive backs usually get much of the spotlight, and you can’t argue with the success of the position at the next level, the running backs have long taken center stage in the state – and have advanced to the next level and beyond.
When looking at the Class of 2023, there are some impressive runners, who have already showcased their many abilities, and in some cases, have already made that important college decision.
Today, we focus in on some of those elite runners as the season is quickly closing in.
There is no doubt that when it comes to this class, there are four prospects who have been on the radar for several years, and have more than backed up what they bring to the table.
Orlando Edgewater’s Cedric Baxter Cedric Baxter 6'1" | 215 lbs | RB Orlando Edgewater | 2023 State FL (6-1, 215), who has Texas, Miami, Florida and Texas A&M hot on his trail, and Lehigh speedster Richard Young Richard Young 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Lehigh | 2023 State FL (6-0, 200), who has Alabama, Georgia and Oregon on his short list, are two marquee prospects who have been getting it done for three years.
Speaking about getting it done for a long time, soon-to-be four-year varsity performer Mark Fletcher Mark Fletcher 6'1" | 225 lbs | RB Plantation American Heritage | 2023 State FL (6-1, 225, Plantation American Heritage), an Ohio State commit, and Florida commit Treyaun Webb Treyaun Webb 6'1" | 205 lbs | RB Jacksonville Trinity Christian | 2023 State FL (6-1, 205, Jacksonville Trinity Christian) are two elite backs who have led their respective teams over the past three seasons.
Other outstanding runners in the class include Orange Park Fleming Island’s Samuel Singleton Jr Samuel Singleton Jr 6'0" | 185 lbs | RB Fleming Island | 2023 State FL . (6-0, 185), who has Florida State and Penn State in the mix – along with others, and Miami Christopher Columbus product Sedric Irvin Jr Sedric Irvin Jr 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB Miami Christopher Columbus | 2023 State FL . (5-10, 190, who recently committed to Stanford, join Arkansas commit Isaiah Augustave Isaiah Augustave 6'2" | 195 lbs | WR Naples | 2023 State FL (6-2, 195, Naples) and Miami Norland’s Javin Simpkins Javin Simpkins 5'9" | 170 lbs | RB Miami Norland | 2023 State FL (5-9, 170), which has a number of schools looking in his direction.
This class also features Fort Lauderdale Dillard speedster Christopher Johnson Christopher Johnson 5'11" | 180 lbs | RB Fort Lauderdale Dillard | 2023 State FL (5-11, 180), who has several schools on him after a stellar spring, University of Iowa commit Kendrick Raphael Kendrick Raphael 5'11" | 180 lbs | RB Naples | 2023 State FL (5-11, 180, Naples) and University of Cincinnati commitment Manny Covey Manny Covey 5'11" | 175 lbs | RB Starke Bradford County | 2023 State FL (5-11, 175, Starke Bradford County).
In addition, keep an eye on recent University of Utah commit Michael Mitchell Michael Mitchell 6'0" | 195 lbs | RB Middleburg | 2023 State FL (6-0, 195, Middleburg) and way under-the-radar Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons standout Kamari Moulton Kamari Moulton 5'9" | 180 lbs | RB Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons | 2023 State FL , a 5-9, 180-pounder.
