The state’s 2023 class boasts several Division-I talents in the position group, including a handful to have received offers from the Bayou Bengals.
Here’s the latest information on the nine cornerbacks — taking into account some positional flexibility — who ranked in the top 100 in Prep Redzone’s previous update prior to the summer. And check out a similar rundown of the best safeties in the rising senior class.

A June visit to the Pacific Northwest helped secure a July 14 commitment to Washington over a previously released coast-to-coast top 12 that included LSU, Auburn, Mississippi State, TCU, Florida State, Oregon, Nebraska, Miami, USC, Purdue and Alcorn State — as well as a summer push from Kentucky.

Matthews may not be far from a commitment announcement after a productive June of official visits to Michigan, Stanford and Tennessee, a stop at hometown LSU with his high school’s 7-on-7 team and continued recruitment by Alabama and Texas — both of which he still currently plans to visit, but both of which he has already seen on multiple occasions.

One of the state’s more underrated and under-the-radar defensive backs announced a commitment July 2 to Harvard after an official visit to the Ivy League program. His other offers include Army, Air Force, Yale, Princeton, Penn, Dartmouth, Columbia, Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisiana Richmond and Holy Cross, and his other visits have included Tulane, Louisiana (Lafayette), Florida and Mississippi State.
Ryan Robinson Jr. Ryan Robinson Jr. 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Edna Karr | 2023 State LA — 6-0, 170 DB — Edna Karr
Robinson has compiled one of Louisiana’s longest lists of scholarship offers during the past two years, but Nebraska — where fellow New Orleans native Mickey Joseph is now on staff — has appeared to surge to the forefront in recent months, including a an official visit last month. The Cornhuskers have done a nice job establishing a pipeline to Louisiana late in the 2022 cycle and thus far in 2023, and Robinson would be another notable victory if they can pry him from his SEC and in-state suitors.

The versatile athlete from the northwest corner of the state has, along with teammate TaDerius Collins TaDerius Collins 6'4" | 245 lbs | DL Northwood (Shreveport) | 2023 State LA , been among Louisiana’s top rising prospects the past several months even despite some limitations as he worked his way back to full health. His most recent offers include Oklahoma State, Memphis, New Mexico State, Vanderbilt and Minnesota, to go along with Baylor, Mississippi State, Louisiana Tech, Tulane, Louisiana (Lafayette), ULM, Northwestern State, Grambling State, Arkansas State and Southern Miss. And he’s firmly on the radars of other Power Five programs such as LSU and Florida State.
David Jones David Jones 5'11" | 185 lbs | DB Madison Prep | 2023 State LA — 5-11, 185 DB — Madison Prep
Jones added offers from Louisiana Tech and Nicholls State following strong camp showings in June to a list that already Nebraska, Indiana, Southern, Grambling State and Northwestern State among others.
Cade Middleton Cade Middleton 5'10" | 165 lbs | DB Riverside Academy | 2023 State LA — 5-10, 165 DB — Riverside Academy
Another versatile athlete, Middleton has heard from different colleges about his potential to play safety, corner or wide receiver. He camped at Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss in June and heads to UTSA this weekend and hears most heavily from those three programs, Northwestern State, Houston, South Alabama and Indiana, with Florida State and Clemson also recently in touch.
Dezaray Delmore Jr. — 5-11, 175 DB — Woodlawn (Baton Rouge)
The underrated Panthers’ defensive back was eager to hit the camp circuit this summer at Tulane, Louisiana (Lafayette) and Southern Miss before a minor injury in the first of those events changed those plans. “D.J.” earned offers this year from Southern, Grambling State, Nicholls State, Northwestern State, Houston Baptist and Southeast Missouri and has also heard from Mississippi State, Texas Tech, Liberty, Central Arkansas, Alcorn State and others and has made visits to several of the in-state programs, including LSU, and to Starkville, Miss.
Cody Smith Cody Smith 6'2" | 180 lbs | DB Zachary | 2023 State LA — 6-2, 180 DB — Zachary
One of the returning veterans on Class 5A state champion Zachary’s defense attended camps at Houston, Louisiana (Lafayette) and Southeastern Louisiana — the last of which has been in most consistent contact with the in-state prospect. Smith is still determining potential official visits for the fall.
