Tyler Smith Tyler Smith 5'10" | 175 lbs | QB Sergeant Bluff-Luton | 2023 State IA from Sergeant Bluff-Luton had a fine junior season and will be one of the key faces back along with Carson Jager of MOC-Floyd Valley.
Here is a look at Smith, Jager and other players to keep an eye on this fall from the district.
Tyler Smith Tyler Smith 5'10" | 175 lbs | QB Sergeant Bluff-Luton | 2023 State IA – Sergeant Bluff-Luton – QB/S
The orchestrator of the Sergeant Bluff-Luton offense, Tyler Smith Tyler Smith 5'10" | 175 lbs | QB Sergeant Bluff-Luton | 2023 State IA , looks to build upon his junior season that saw him complete 64 percent of his passes for almost 2,300 with 24 touchdowns and just five interceptions. Oh, and Smith was also dangerous as a runner, racking up 511 yards and eight more scores.
Behind Smith, the Warriors reached the state quarterfinals. And with him back, and having another season under his belt, look for Sergeant Bluff-Luton to make a strong push for Cedar Falls and the UNI-Dome.
Carson Jager – MOC-Floyd Valley – QB/LB
A couple of close setbacks kept MOC-Floyd Valley from a winning season in 2021. Having Carson Jager back for his senior campaign could be the difference this time around.
Jager threw for almost 1,400 yards with 10 touchdowns a season ago,c completing 44 percent of his passes while averaging almost 14 yards per completion.
Jager provides some movement with RPOs and in the run game, but I would expect a little more from that area this fall. He also has four receivers who caught at least 10 passes back.
Quinn Olson – Sioux City Heelan – QB/S
Over the years, Sioux City Heelan has produced some high-level quarterbacks. Quinn Olson might be the next one. As a sophomore, Olson completed 50 percent of his passes for 407 yards with three touchdowns.
The offense will be all his this fall, and a huge improvement in those numbers should be expected. Heelan struggled last year, but with many of the key pieces back – led by Olson – they should be back to contending.
Cooper Ludwig Cooper Ludwig 5'8" | 160 lbs | RB Carroll | 2024 IA – Carroll – RB/LB
Having a balanced offense leads to success, and for Carroll, part of that starts with Cooper Ludwig Cooper Ludwig 5'8" | 160 lbs | RB Carroll | 2024 IA . The junior-to-be led the district in rushing last year at 592 yards, scoring three touchdowns.
Now, a year older and with a year of experience under his belt having carried the rock 180 times, Ludwig should be quite the force for the Tigers.
Scott Kroll – Sergeant Bluff-Luton – WR/CB
The Sergeant Bluff-Luton passing attack was one of the best in 3A last year. With Tyler Schenkelberg gone, his production will fall into the hands of Scott Kroll and others.
Kroll recorded 26 receptions for over 400 yards, scoring six touchdowns last year. He presents excellent size at 6-foot and over 165 pounds, with speed to burn opposing defenders.
