There are numerous towns and cities across the talent-rich state including the larger metropolitan areas of Baltimore, DC, Western Maryland, and the Eastern Shore. Here is the Pre-Season First Team Maryland 2A All State Offense.
Deshawn Purdie | 6’4’’ 205 lbs | Quarterback | Milford Mill Academy
Purdie takes over the helm as the Millers starting Quarterback. The 2021 State Champion Runner- Ups have had plenty of success out of their past QBs, Tasheen Howard and Rishon Holmes, and Purdie seems to be the next in line. The junior QB has had a pretty successful off- season, winning the Ray Isaac Quarterback MVP at a recent camp and also earning his first offer from the University of Maryland.
Kevin O’Connor | 6’4’’ 240 lbs | Quarterback | Easton High School
O’Connor is one of the top overall athletes in the state. He was named Honorable Mention All State as a Linebacker last season, but is also a dominant QB. The Duke University Commit, tallied 2,523 Total Yards, 1,869 Passing Yards, 50 Percent Completion Rating, 17 Passing Touchdowns, 654 Rushing Yards, 5.4 Yards Per Rush, and 8 Touchdowns.
Jamari Somerville | 6’1’’ 185 lbs | Running Back | Lackey High School
Somerville finished the season with All Met Honorable Mention honors. One of the top Defensive Backs in the state, the Lackey athlete is also one of the top rushers in Maryland.He ran for 1,370 Rushing Yards, 11 Yards Per Carry, 14 Rushing Touchdowns, 11 Receptions, 232 Receiving Yards, 21 Yards Per Catch, and 1 Touchdown. He also holds offers from Boston College, Buffalo, Temple, Army, Delaware State, Towson, Delaware, Fordham, Monmouth, Dartmouth, Holy Cross, and Wheeling.
Will Smothers | 6’ 200 lbs | Running Back | Queen Anne’s County High School
Smothers is the leading returning rusher in the state for all of 2A. He earned All State honors last season rushing for 1,520 rushing, 6.85 Yards Per Carry, and 19 Touchdowns. The 3.75 GPA athlete currently holds an offer from Army.
Brycen Coleman | 6’6’’ 180 lbs | Wide Receiver | Stephen Decatur High School
Coleman was named 1st Team All Bayside in his sophomore campaign for the second year in a row. He caught 47 Receptions, had 695 Receiving Yards, averaged 14.7 Yards Per Catch, and had 9 Receiving Touchdowns. The young Decatur receiver already holds an offer from James Madison.
Daysen Shell | 6’ 170 lbs | Wide Receiver | Milford Mill Academy
Shell leads all returning receivers in yardage with accounting for 721 Receiving Yards last season. He also had 36 Receptions, averaged 20 Yards Per Catch, and 6 Receiving Touchdowns. The Millers explosive senior receiver was also named to the BTC Super 22 Team.
Jaden Gordon | 6’ 170 lbs | Wide Receiver | New Town High School
Gordon is another athlete who has been named to the Baltimore Touchdown Club Super 22 Team. He is one of the most electrifying play makers in the state. The Titans receiver is a threat on the offense side of the ball, as well as a special teams returner, and in the defensive backfield.
Dominick Hunt | 6’ 155 lbs | Wide Receiver | Northeast High School
Hunt was named to the Baltimore Touchdown Club Super 22 team. He provides a constant mismatch for defenders and is versatile enough to play as an inside or outside receiver. The Eagles finished at 4-6 last year and lost in the 1st Round of the State Playoffs. The 4.0 GPA athlete and his teammates look to take Northeast for a deeper ride into the playoffs this season.
Rashard Herring | 6’2’’ 285 lbs | Offensive Line | Milford Mill Academy
Herring is the 3rd Miller to make our 1st Team All State Offense list. He won BTC Super 22 Team, 2nd Team All State, 2nd Team All Metro Offensive Line, and 1st Team All County Offensive Line and Defensive Line last season. He also holds an offer from Howard University.
Major Dillard | 6’2’’ 340 lbs | Offensive Line | Douglass High School
Dillard is two way linemen who help spearhead the Eagles in their quest to repeat. He will lead a Offensive Line that anchored one of the state’s top rushing attacks to an average of 30 points per game, a 13-1 season, and a State Championship.
Anthony Stevenson | 6’2’’ 275 lbs | Offensive Line | Calvert High School
Stevenson will anchor an offensive line this season that was the key part to Calvert’s Second Round State Playoff appearance after a 5-4 regular season. Stevenson is one of Calvert’s key returners and more experienced Cavaliers team may be the key to a successful season.
James Green | 6’4’’ 250 lbs | Offensive Line | New Town High School
Green is a transfer to a revamped Titans squad. He is one of the most athletic linemen in the state, has great footwork to pass protect against speed rushers, and the power to dominate in the run game.
Luke Pappano | 6’2’’ 250 lbs | Offensive Line | Poolesville High School
Pappano was a First Team MOCO All County selection last season as a Defensive Lineman. He also is one of the top Offensive Linemen in 2A football. He returns to a Falcons team that went 5-5 and was eliminated after the First Round of the State Playoffs. However, he was the part of an offensive line unit that led Poolesville to an average of 26 points per game.
