Prep Redzone is not a “pay for rankings” organization. Prep RedZone is a top-notch national scouting organization. This is an overview of how I evaluate players for rankings.
I strive to give honest and fair player evaluations without showing personal favoritism towards particular teams. I reach out to high school coaches seeking their input on their college prospects. I reach out to college coaches for input on high school prospects. Fellow scout, Will Helms and I discuss prospects and usually agree on the majority of the player rankings. Time is spent on social media reviewing teams’ players stats, players’ twitter accounts, and Hudl accounts.
Factors to Consider – I evaluate players based on game performances, game stats, level of competition, game film, player athleticism, college offers, and camp performances. Players do not automatically get a higher ranking for playing on a championship team. I am on the sidelines on Friday nights covering games where college prospects are competing against each other. I cover camps and combines to observe prospects performances in agility drills and one-on-one drills, also.
Goal – The goal is to scout the entire State of North Carolina to help get as many players as possible recognition and recruited. Northeastern North Carolina, Western North Carolina, and Southeastern North Carolina are regions of this state that are under-recruited. There are talented prospects who live in those regions of the state. There are some position groups that are deep with talented players. This makes it difficult for ranking purposes. There will be talented players who are not ranked in the top-ten of their position group because of the talent depth, no slight against players.
Things players can do to be seen: Participate in Prospect Camps and Combines. Post your workouts on social media accounts. Keep your Hudl account and Twitter account updated and post on social media.
Shortcomings: I cannot cover every game on Friday nights once the season starts. I am one person who can only cover a certain number of games each season.
The updated rankings for North Carolina are scheduled to go live on the following dates.
August 1st, 2022 – Class of 2023
August 8th, 2022 – Class of 2024
August 15th, 2022 – Class of 2025
*Note: The initial Class of 2026 player rankings will start in December 2022. We will be evaluating game performances, reviewing game film, and talking with coaches for input on the 2026 players.
