Continue ReadingThis last weekend I had a short drive up to Tyler, Minnesota for a camp on the new Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Turf field. Former St. Cloud State and NFL QB, Todd Bouman, who is also an RTR alum was the host of the camp with Game Face Training. He brought along his son, former Prep Redzone standout and now currently a QB on the University of South Dakota, Aidan Bouman, they teamed up and helped train the QB’s. For the skill position kids, Todd’s old OC at Buffalo High School, Josh Ortmann, and a former Buffalo athlete, now basketball player at St. Cloud State, Tony Dahl would team up to train them. From start to finish I saw a lot of improvement in each athlete in attendance at camp and it was a well-organized camp well fit for 20 athletes. I will list all those athletes in attendance since this was a small camp and a few that stood out to me on the day.
Kellen Johnson Kellen Johnson 6'5" | 205 lbs | QB Pipestone Area Schools | 2023 MN (Pipestone Area QB)- Kellen looked really comfortable throwing the ball to all the different targets, while he had a lot from his team at camp, he meshed well with everyone there. He was throwing a lot of darts all over the field and hitting his guys in stride in both individuals and 7-on-7’s.
Ryan Dalager (Minneota QB)- Dalager had a great day overall, he looked good in drills and in competition. He had good footwork, throwing motion and arm strength. He made good adjustments when it came to throwing to all the different targets at this camp.
Blake Christianson (RTR QB)- Christianson showed some athleticism in the reps he got in the whole camp. He also showed good footwork and a good spiral. He made a lot of improvements and he gained a lot of confidence as the camp progressed.
Camden Hansen (RTR WR)- Hansen stood out in the route running portion, which led into the 7-on-7 portion. He was running precise routes, and flashed some good hands with his jumping ability and focus on the in coming pass.
Connor Holt (Pipestone Area TE)- Holt’s first day as a skill player in two years was a good day for him. He knew his routes and ran them all well. He also had good focus on the pass as it was coming towards him and he did not give up on it until he caught it.
Sawyer DeSmet Sawyer DeSmet 6'5" | 205 lbs | ATH Minneota | 2024 State MN (Minneota TE)- DeSmet was doing a great job running vertical routes and going up and getting the ball. He had good height to already have good position on the pass, then he used his jumping to go up and high-point the football.
Hayden Gravley (RTR TE)- Gravley is fresh off an ACL injury from last year, that didn’t slow him down much with it being his first time on the gridiron since. He also has a good frame, route running ability and hands.
Hayden Pearson (Colman-Egan RB)- Pearson stood out early in drills, I liked his footwork and technique in all the agility drills. He did really well in the route running portion and made a lot of plays and nice catches.
Ben Zwart (Colman-Egan RB)- Zwart showed a lot of raw talent throughout the whole camp, I think he may have shown the most confidence at the end of the camp. He looked a lot more comfortable with his footwork and hands from the start of the camp to the end of it.
