Continue ReadingAn incredible run by the 2021 Serra Catholic Eagles ended when the program ran into the buzzsaw that was Southern Columbia. There is no shame in losing to the vaulted SC Tiger program that has dominated competition for half a decade. The 2021 Serra Catholic defense put on a show week after week, giving up just 215 points in 16 games, giving up just over 13 points a game on average. The SC defense pitched three shutouts on their way to a 14-2 record, defeating Sto-Rox and Farrell HS on their way to the 2A Championship game. The SC class of 2022 was special, to say the least, here are prospects SC will be missing this Fall.
Keep Departures: Pharoh Fisher, Jayvon Campbell-Holt, Terrell Booth, Paul Pearson, Ryan Brooks, Max Rocco
Daiquan Chatfield Daiquan Chatfield 5’9″ | 155 lbs | DB Serra Catholic | 2023 State PA was a crucial piece to an elite Serra Catholic secondary, headlined by Pharoh Fisher. Chatfield enters the 2022 season as the highest ranking Eagle amongst the 2A Championship runner-ups. I have had the chance to watch Chatfield’s game progress throughout two different offseason, leaving me to believe this kid is about to show off his best play to date. Quality production saw Chatfield accumulate three interceptions last Fall, with 13 PBUs to boot, an impressive number no matter the circumstance. Very excited to see recruitment ramp up this offseason as well, seeing Chatfield secure offers out of Concord University, Westminster College, Waynesburg, and Notre Dame College, all matching up with his top-250 rank. Chatfield has had a wealth of knowledge to work with between past/current coaches and prospects who want to see the young man succeed. I expect his stock to continue its upward trajectory.
The offense will look different this Fall when comparing it to its special run in 2021. Amire Spencer Amire Spencer 5’10” | 170 lbs | WR Serra Catholic | 2023 State PA will more than likely see his role expand this Fall, as will his production. This is a prime situation for Spencer to cement his name into Serra Catholic history, the young man has every opportunity to lead the offense as its primary receiver, a role I could see Spencer thrive in. Spencer managed to eclipse the 300-yard receiving total in just seven games, a full slate could lead to a potential thousand-yard receiver so long as he acts as the primary target. Nonetheless, Spencer’s name could explode this Fall.
Elijah Ward Elijah Ward 5’11” | 165 lbs | ATH Serra Catholic | 2023 State PA is the prospect on SC that I am most looking forward to seeing this Fall. Ward has all the potential to finish the season as the highest ranking Eagle, his skillset at DB has that ceiling. Coaches at the next level might want to see Ward replicate his phenomenal junior campaign, it’s the only way I can wrap my head around as to why this kid is unoffered at the time of writing. Ward has his hands in everything, scoring from every alignment he was assigned. Take away the touchdowns, the interceptions, Ward is a presence at safety in run support alone, recording just under 60 tackles and three forced fumbles. The debut rank is a modest one, Ward has top-200 potential. I am also seeing Ward throw the ball on Twitter as well, we could see even more touchdowns out of this kid this Fall.
Antoine Smith Antoine Smith 6’0″ | 225 lbs | DL Serra Catholic | 2023 State PA might be one of the more underrated Eagles on the site, along with 2024 prospect Jesere Young Jesere Young 6’0″ | 150 lbs | ATH Serra Catholic | 2024 State PA . Antoine Smith Antoine Smith 6’0″ | 225 lbs | DL Serra Catholic | 2023 State PA is expected to see reps inside both offensive and defensive trenches. Antoine Smith Antoine Smith 6’0″ | 225 lbs | DL Serra Catholic | 2023 State PA ‘s grade has him as a low D3 prospect, yet we might have to adjust the rating as Smith has already acquired a D3 offer from Waynesburg University before his senior campaign has even started. A sign that more opportunities could be on the way.
Highlights
Jesere Young Jesere Young 6’0″ | 150 lbs | ATH Serra Catholic | 2024 State PA leads as the highest ranking 2024 prospect amongst Serra Catholic players. Whether or not that changes is besides the point, Young is ready to put his name on the map. I attribute Young’s talents to best suit the defensive side of the ball, yet can see his skillset translate to both sides of the field. We spoke about Spencer’s potential role expansion on offense, Young could see the same boost. Expect his rank to raise this time next year.
De’reon Washington
De’reon Washington
Mike Schanck Mike Schanck LB Serra Catholic | 2023 PA and De’Reon Washington are both new to the site, both acting as unranked prospects who I could see make noise this Fall in Serra Catholic’s favor. Washington could be another defensive back waiting in the stables, a 2025 prospect who showed positive progression on his freshman tape. Excited to see how productive this offseason has been for the young man. As for Schanck, the linebacker’s tape makes every argument for a potential rank, that time will come. If Serra Catholic wants to return to it’s 2021 form, they will need major contributions from both of these prospects. Excited to see what 2022 has in store for the Eagles.
