Who are the top 5 overall prospects in Georgia?
Prep Redzone gives the latest below…
Sammy Brown Sammy Brown 6'2" | 225 lbs | ATH Jefferson | 2024 State GA – LB/RB- Jefferson
One of the top overall prospects across the country, Brown is a game-changing running back and linebacker with excellent size, speed, power, and natural athleticism. The 5-star comes in at No. 1 in Georgia for the 2024 class after dominating last fall as a sophomore before a season-ending injury. At 6-foot-2 225-pounds, Brown is tough, physical, and runs like a deer. He’s a hard-hitting instinctive linebacker who rarely misses a tackle. He’s smart, instinctive, and knows how to chase down the ball carrier. He’s an excellent option on offense with the ball in his hands, running through defenders and running past them with ease. Before injury last year, Brown rushed for 753 yards and 11 touchdowns in just five full games. At linebacker, Brown made 35 tackles and was on his way to making many more. The top-ranked prospect in the peach state holds offers from Georgia, Clemson, Michigan, Ohio State, among others.
KJ Bolden KJ Bolden 6'1" | 185 lbs | WR Buford | 2024 State GA – WR/DB – Buford
Coming in at No. 2 in the latest 2024 Georgia rankings is one of the top two-way prospects in the country for his class. An elite playmaker with 5-star potential and impressive track-speed, Bolden will attempt to lead Buford to a 7A title this fall as a junior. He has plenty of size and athleticism at 6-foot-2 185-pounds with terrific closing speed on defense and explosiveness with the ball in his hands. Whether he’s on defense or offense, Bolden is one play away from changing the game. As a receiver, Bolden is a smooth route runner who can create separation on his own. When he has the ball, he has a 2nd gear that allows him to run by defenders down the field. Defensively, he closes well when the ball is in the air and does a great job of breaking passes up. His size, quickness, and length make it hard for receivers to make plays when he’s in the area. He plays at a different level, and it’s led to offers from just about every major program in the country. Like Brown, Bolden will be able to pick the school of his choosing when the time comes, but not before two more big seasons at Buford.
Daniel Calhoun Daniel Calhoun 6'5" | 330 lbs | OL Walton | 2024 State GA – OL – Centennial
Coming in at No. 3 overall in the state of Georgia and the No. 1 offensive tackle prospect, Daniel is a mammoth tackle prospect with power and size. Physically, it’s hard to find another tackle in the 2024 class who looks better than Calhoun. The young Roswell native out of Centennial already looks like a D1 offensive lineman thanks to his gigantic 6-foot-5 340-pound frame. He’s huge, more more importantly, he’s powerful and moves well for his size. He’s also outstanding in the weight room and has only gotten stronger this offseason. He’s an absolute mauler in the run game, making him a possible interior guard at the next level. He holds the edge and can overpower opposing edge defenders due to his size and raw power, and as he continues to develop as a pass-protector, Calhoun could push for 5-star status down the road in the 2024 class. He currently holds offers from Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, Ohio State, among others.
One of the top two-way players in Gwinnett County and across the state last fall, Matthews is a dynamic athlete now ranked as the No. 4 prospect in Georgia. A reliable, sure-handed receiver, the 6-foot-3 180-pounder was excellent as a sophomore last year, catching 48 passes this year for 764 yards and 7 touchdowns. He’s a smooth runner who can get open on his own, making him one of the leading receivers in the state last fall in the 2024 class. He’s a vertical threat and knows how to make plays in the screen game as well due to his quick burst and big-play ability. As a defender, Matthews is a rangy safety who covers a lot of ground down the field. He’s quick, instinctive, and has no problem coming up to make a tackle against the run. He looks like he’s playing at a different speed than everyone else, and his length frame and reliable hands will give him a chance to play on either side of the ball at the next level. Until then, expect to see Matthews making plays in all phases of the game for Parkview over the next two years.
Eddrick Houston Eddrick Houston 6'3" | 255 lbs | DL Buford | 2024 State GA – EDGE – Buford
Another standout from Buford High School Houston is a terrific-looking EDGE prospect due to his 6-foot-3 215-pound frame and natural athleticism. Coming in at No. 5 in the newest 2204 rankings, Houston is a jumbo-athlete who can play on the edge and catch passes as a tight end. He stands out physically with plenty of room to add more muscle over time. He has elite quickness off the ball and can disrupt a play in the backfield at any point. He’s long, athletic, and shows explosiveness for his size and age. He has a great motor, gets off blocks, and shows strong hands when handling opposing offensive linemen. He holds his position well and clogs the running lanes when playing inside. A versatile defender, look for Houston to make plays at multiple defensive positions this fall. The Wolves have a loaded roster, and Houston is one of the best.
