Continue ReadingThe Arizona College Prep Knights last season had an up and down season last year. After a slow start, the Knights rattled off four straight wins, and ending the season strong. After finishing 5-5, the Knights return this season with a loaded roster. With most of their key contributors being juniors and younger, the added off season experience and leadership gained now being the seniors on the roster, ACP is ready to ride that momentum into the fall. Watch out for these key players to make a difference for the Knights.
Jayden Diaz Jayden Diaz 6'1" | 180 lbs | ATH Arizona College Prep | 2023 State AZ , Quarterback
6’1″ 185 lbs All-Region quarterback for the Knights has a really solid game, and really enjoyable to watch and break down. Smooth in the pocket, strong presence while in there and always steps into his throws. Doesn’t get lazy or fear the rush, finishes his throws and makes them on time. Steps up and rolls out very well to show his high awareness, but he keeps his eyes down field which is huge and rare for a dual threat guy like him at any level. Great arm, can throw it accurately to any sideline and can make any deep ball you ask him to throw (Watch his first play on tape). With offers starting to roll in, Diaz is going to be the catalyst of the offense, and for good reason. I am very excited to see him play this season.
Jake Hoel Jake Hoel 6'2" | 170 lbs | WR Arizona College Prep | 2023 State AZ , Wide Receiver/Cornerback
Listed at 6’2″ 175 lbs, Jake Hoel Jake Hoel 6'2" | 170 lbs | WR Arizona College Prep | 2023 State AZ has the size and athleticism you want for your team. Can play both sides of the ball, and very well at both. Had 3 touchdowns last season and also led the team in interceptions. Deep ball threat has great speed and quickness off the ball to get past defenders. Catches the ball very well in traffic, uses his hands in order to bring down tough balls with defenders on him. On defense, he has great instinct and makes plays you don’t expect someone to make. Interceptions on back side throws, tackles with two blockers in front of him, Hoel is versatile on both sides of the ball and can play almost any position on the field. Excited to see where he ends up playing and what he’s added to his game this off season.
Jerron Salazar Jerron Salazar 5'10" | 165 lbs | DB Arizona College Prep | 2023 State AZ , Wide Receiver/Safety
5’10” 165 lbs dual athlete, dual position athlete who has crazy athletisism and speed. The speed jumps off the screen while you watch him back, and even more so in person. Super quick off the ball, can run double move routes very well and uses his speed very well. Knows how to stop and start again to draw the defenders in and is able to blow past them for touchdowns. 5 touchdowns last season, watch out for more for Salazar. Would love to see him more in space on jet sweeps, screens out wide, and even on straight running plays as a running back. Regardless, Salazar should be involved heavily for ACP this fall.
Marco Palafox Marco Palafox 6'1" | 270 lbs | OL Arizona College Prep | 2023 State AZ , Offensive Line
6’1″ 270 lbs, Palafox plays hard, fast, and mean on that ACP Knight offensive line. Lines up at center, he mans the line with his power and his force on the defense. Strong kid, blocks hard and to the whistle. Very good at getting to the next level on run plays, takes good angles to backers and able to allow his runners extra yards because of it. Head on the right side of the defender, creates holes very well. Great in pass pro as well, keeps his eyes up and see backers blitzing or games being played on the line. With Diaz sitting in the pocket, he does not have to worry about the pass rush coming up the gut thanks to Palafox.
With a large group of seniors this season for the Knights, expect big things this fall. With a very talented quarterback with play makers out wide for him to throw to, and a quality leader on the offensive line, points should come easily for the AZ College Prep Knights.
