Here are a few big risers in the latest 2023 Prep Redzone Rankings…
After a giant off-season where Lee continued to improve and impress in the camp circuit, the Kennesaw Mountain wideout made a massive jump in the latest update, climbing the list to No. 16 overall in the state. He’s still ranked as the No. 2 wide receiver, but with a strong senior season, Lee could make a case for No. 1 in the next update. An experienced prospect entering his final season this fall, it’s easy to see the overall talent, dedication, and effort that Cayden Lee Cayden Lee 5'11" | 150 lbs | WR Hillgrove | 2023 State GA brings to game. At 5-foot-11 175-pounds, Lee is a natural route runner and a natural pass-catcher. He’s twitchy, changes direction well, and knows how to reel in a tough catch down the field. He’s technically sound, has great feet and knows how to create separation from defensive backs on many different routes. create separation. Lee also has soft, reliable hands and shows explosiveness in the open field. As a junior last fall, Lee caught 54 passes for over 1,000 yards and 11 TDs. He holds offers from South Carolina, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, among others.
Jatavius Shivers Jatavius Shivers 6'6" | 290 lbs | OL Villa Rica | 2023 State GA – Villa Rica
One of the biggest stock risers on the offensive line in the latest update was Villa Rica tackle, Jatavius Shivers Jatavius Shivers 6'6" | 290 lbs | OL Villa Rica | 2023 State GA who makes a massive jump and now ranked as the No. 50 overall prospect in Georgia. A South Carolina commitment, Shivers has plenty of size at 6-foot-7 270-pounds with a long, lean frame that will allow him to put on more muscle and mass over the next few years. A promising right tackle prospect, Shivers is excellent against the run and knows how to drive opposing defenders out of the play. He’s strong, physical, and someone Villa Rica can run behind this fall. His length is easy to notice, but he’s also a true competitor who loves to work and perfect his craft. Like most linemen, he still needs to work on his footwork and overall pass protection as he’ll be going against some of the top EDGE defenders in college football at the next level in SEC. He has a tremendous work ethic, size, and the ability to bully and push around defenders in West Georgia this fall.
Gabriel Fortson Gabriel Fortson 6'4" | 300 lbs | OL North Cobb | 2023 State GA – North Cobb Christian
One of the top OL prospects not only in 7A, but in Cobb County as well, the North Cobb Christian lineman dominated last year in that region, pushing his opponents around on both offense and defense. Playing both ways, Fortson didn’t miss a beat and bullied people in the middle of the trenches. He has plenty of size at 6-foot-4 300-pounds and was outstanding as a center last year. He’s quick off the ball, physical, strong, and consistently pancaked his opponents, getting them on the ground and opening running lanes up the middle. He also did a good job of getting to the second level and getting a hand on linebackers. Now ranked as the No. 79 prospect in the state, the big interior lineman out of Kennesaw holds offers from Georgia Tech, Georgia Southern, Mississippi State, among others.
Jaylen Johnson Jaylen Johnson 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB Appling County | 2023 State GA – Appling County
One of the top two-way players in all of South Georgia, Johnson is one of the biggest movers on offense in the latest rankings, making a big jump into the top-100, coming in at No. 94 overall in the state for the 2023 class Johnson showed last fall as a junior that he’s an excellent weapon with the ball in his hands, and while he’s a reliable option in the passing game, he’s a natural running back and bound for a giant senior year after missing all but three games last year as a junior. When healthy, Johnson is quick, shifty, and knows how to run away from defenders. He’s a slippery back that breaks tackles, and once he gets into space, he’s looking to score. He’s not the biggest back in the state at 5-foot-9, but he’s got some muscle on his frame at 190-pounds. He shows good balance and works the sideline well when he gets to the edge. He’s a tough runner, brings a physical presence, and knows how to break tackle after tackle in his region. He currently holds offers from Arkansas, Florida State, Georgia Southern, among others.
