The fourth week of the season provided us yet another week full of outstanding performances. While it was hard to narrow down, these are the top ten performances in the state of Kentucky that stood out in week four.
Hagan Harrison Hagan Harrison 6’2″ | 200 lbs | QB Madison Central | 2023 State KY is a quarterback that has gotten off to a hot start this season. He continued down that path this past Friday night, completing 10/11 passes for 172 yards and five touchdowns while leading his team to an impressive 56-6 victory over South Laurel. The senior quarterback has great leadership ability as he can take over the game at any given moment. He has the arm strength to take the top off of a secondary and also has the ability to tuck the ball and pick up big plays on the ground. Harrison doesn’t currently hold any official offers but I would be surprised if some didn’t come for him soon as he is a big reason why Madison Central is considered one of the top teams in the state this season.
Highlights
For the second time this season, Max DeGraff Max DeGraff 5’11” | 155 lbs | K Lexington Catholic | 2023 State KY cracks my top performers list and has proven to me once again that he is more than just a kicker. DeGraff had an outstanding performance on offense this past Friday, lining up at receiver and catching five passes for 146 yards and three touchdowns. He is a very skilled route runner with the ability to create separation in his breaks. DeGraff also showed great concentration while making catches, looking the ball in from his body and making sure he secures the catch before making his next move. To add to his performance, he continued to do his thing at kicker, making 6/6 PAT attempts. DeGraff doesn’t currently hold any offers but I expect him to find a home at the next level as he has received a ton of interest as a kicker and has shown the versatility to play offense if needed as well.
Tyleik Maxwell
Tyleik Maxwell
Tyleik Maxwell is a player that has jumped onto my radar recently. He put on quite a performance this past Friday, completing 13/19 passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns while also running the ball nine times for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Maxwell is electric with the ball in his hands as a ball carrier. On Friday, he showed that he is very dangerous on designed quarterback draws as he has the speed to run away from a defense and the elusiveness to make defenders miss in the open field. As a passer, he showed the ability to avoid pressure and keep his eyes down the field to make throws on the run. He also showed off very impressive accuracy with the ability to hit his receivers in stride. Tyleik already held an offer from Pikeville and just picked up his first Division 1 offer from Eastern Kentucky this week, and I expect more to come for him if he keeps up this level of play.
Carter Howard
Carter Howard
Carter Howard was an unknown name to me that stood out this past week. He made plays all over the field on defense Thursday night, finishing the game with 16 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks, and a forced fumble. Howard plays with a very high motor, exploding out of his stance off the edge as a pass rusher and using his speed to blow by opposing offensive tackles. Once he gets to the quarterback or to the ball carrier in the run game, he does a great job of running his feet on contact and securing the sack/tackle. He also brings a ton of force as a tackle, which allows him to knock the ball loose. Howard doesn’t currently hold any offers but he is definitely a player to watch over the next two seasons.
Gavin Copenhaver Gavin Copenhaver 6’0″ | 210 lbs | ATH Christian Academy Of Louisville | 2023 State KY is a player that I have had high on my radar for a while now and he continued to impress this past week as he was a key part of his team’s huge victory over Lexington Christian Academy. Copenhaver got the job done on both sides of the ball, carrying the ball 12 times for 89 yards and two touchdowns, and catching three passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns on offense while coming away with 15 tackles, three tackles for loss, and a forced fumble on defense. At linebacker, he does a great job of reading his keys and coming downhill in a hurry. He fills his gap and gets through the line of scrimmage before opposing offensive linemen can react. Once he gets to the ball carrier, he does a great job of running his feet on contact and securing the tackle. On offense, he showed very impressive elusiveness in the open field, with the ability to make smooth cuts to make defenders miss. He also showed the ability to leak out of the backfield and use his speed to pose as a deep threat on wheel routes. Gavin currently holds offers from Valparaiso, McKendree, and Dayton, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see more come for him as he has the skill set to thrive on either side of the ball at the next level.
Highlights
Larry Carter
Larry Carter
Larry Carter is another unknown player to me that stood out this past week. He made plays all over the field for Frankfort in their dominant win over Doss. Carter completed 2/3 passes for 58 yards and two touchdowns, carried the ball six times for 127 yards and three touchdowns, caught three passes for 63 yards and a touchdown, made five tackles, caught two interceptions, and recovered two fumbles. His natural position on offense is receiver and he showed the ability to use his speed and elusiveness in the open field after the catch to turn screens/short passes into long gains and touchdowns. He also showed a high catch radius, with the ability to catch that ball at its highest point. Carter also lined up at quarterback in a wildcat type of role and used his speed to tuck the ball and run away from the defense. On defense, he lined up at corner and showed the ability to mirror receivers in man coverage, come down to provide run support, and the ball skills to come away with interceptions. Carter doesn’t currently hold any offers but he has the skill set to play multiple positions at the next level and should be looked at closely by college coaches.
Jackson Wasik
Jackson Wasik
Jackson Wasik is a player that I’ve had my eye on this season and he continued to impress this past Friday. Wasik finished the game completing 19/27 passes for 312 yards and five touchdowns. He showed great pocket mobility with the ability to step up to avoid pressure while keeping his eyes down the field to deliver a pass. Wasik also showed impressive ball placement, putting it where only his receiver could get it and also displayed a very strong arm, pushing the ball down the field and leading his receivers away from defensive backs. He doesn’t currently hold any offers but is a name to watch as he is a very talented quarterback.
Jerry Kpehe
Jerry Kpehe
Jerry Kpehe is a player that has jumped onto my radar lately. Although his team fell short, he made plays all over the field last week. Kpehe finished the game with 15 carries for 332 yards and four touchdowns, two catched for 40 yards, seven tackles, and one interception for a touchdown. He showed incredible speed as a ball carrier with the ability to run away from the defense once he got around the edge or into the second level. Kpehe also showed very impressive moves in the open field, making defenders miss on multiple occasions. On defense, he showed great awareness in the secondary and the ball skills to come away with an interception. Jerry doesn’t currently hold any offers but should be on college radars as he has the skill set to play multiple positions at the next level.
Dane Parsley
Dane Parsley
Dane Parsley has been on fire early in his sophomore season and continued to impress this past week. He completed 9/14 passes for 297 yards and five touchdowns while also running the ball for a score. Parsley has a very strong arm with the ability to lead his receivers and hit them in stride in the deep passing game. He also has very good accuracy in the short and intermediate passing game. When under pressure, Parsley has the ability to escape the pocket and make big plays as a ball carrier. Parsley should be a name to watch over the next few seasons and I expect him to start getting some attention from college coaches if he keeps up this level of play.
Another underclassman that has stood out to me recently is freshman quarterback Cam O’Hara Cam O’Hara 6’2″ | 180 lbs | QB Cooper | 2026 State KY from Cooper. He had yet another impressive performance this past Friday, completing 18/26 passes for 386 yards and three touchdowns. O’Hara showed off an impressive deep ball in this game, putting a great amount of touch on the ball to place it where only his receiver could get to it. He was able to stretch the field and lead his receivers down the field so that they could catch the ball in stride on their way to the end zone. Cam doesn’t currently hold any offers but will be a quarterback that will surely get a ton of attention over the next four years.
