Davis
The Darts started their season 0-2, leaving many to wonder how good this team could be in 2022. However, Davis showed they could play with almost any team in 5A with a monumental upset over the undefeated Farmington Phoenix 17-14. The Darts trailed going into the fourth quarter 14-7 but would outscore the top team in Region 1, 10-0, in the final frame to capture the win. Running back Josh Barker scored both the Darts touchdowns, with kicker Gage Butler knocking down a 30-yard field goal for the win.
Skyridge
Coming off their first loss of the season last week, the Falcons had trouble responding ea;y and trailed the Lone Peak Knights for most of the night. At halftime, Lone Peak led 16-3 and would stretch that lead to 20 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the game, but that’s when the Falcons began to soar. took that kickoff 96 yards to begin to trim the deficit. Falcons running back Tate Walker would punch in the final two scores for the stunning win over the Knights.
Mountain Ridge
Mountain Ridge was in danger of falling out of the Region 3 race if they could not beat West Jordan. But thanks to their outstanding performance on defense, the Sentinels got an upset road win over their region foe 15-7. Mountain Ridge held West Jordan scoreless in the first, third, and fourth quarters to help seal the win. Offensively the Sentinels did score one touchdown, but nine of the team’s 15 points were added by kicker Brody Laga. All three of those kicks were made from 44 yards or more in one of the best kicking performances we’ve seen all season.
Roy
Roy jumped out to a 28-0 lead over Cyprus, but shortly after, the Pirates took over the game. In the final 20 minutes of action, the Royals were outscored by the Pirates 30-6. Most teams would completely blow these types of leads and tend to lose the game, but credit the Royals for not folding and finding the end zone one more time to help them hold onto the 34-30 win. Roy receiver Robert Yong found the end zone twice as he helped his team move to 3-1 in Region 2 play.
