While many of those guys have certainly lived up to the preseason hype, there have been many senior athletes all over the field who have had equally impressive campaigns in their final season in high school. Some of these guys will be late risers that go on to have big college careers, as every year, big senior seasons lead to opportunities at the next level. In this piece, I will explore some of the most surprising senior campaigns thus far in the 2022 season on the offensive side of the ball.
Cade Sando
Cade Sando
Cade Sando was a name that did not appear when breaking down the quarterbacks in the area prior to the season, but he has had an extremely impressive season. In three games played, he has thrown for 789 yards at an excellent 68.5% completion rate. With seven touchdowns and only one interception, he has absolutely made a mark on the stat sheet. Perhaps the most impressive stats he has put forward, however, are his yards per completion (21.3) and his quarterback rating (143.1).
Dylan Spicer
Dylan Spicer
Spicer has been one of the most impressive running backs in the area this year, having the second most rushing yards in the entire state through three games. So far this season, he has rushed for 492 yards on 50 rushes for an extremely impressive 9.8 yards per carry. Standing at 6’2″ and 165 pounds, Spicer does not look like the typical running back on paper, but his production cannot be denied. He is a player that has certainly helped himself with the awesome start to his senior season.
Rico Jerez-Sosa
Rico Jerez-Sosa
Jerez-Sosa is coming off of a 1,500+ yard rushing season in 2021, and he is off to a similarly impressive start in 2022. Through three games, Jerez-Sosa has seen his carries per game drop from last year, but his yards per carry has actually risen to 9.9, which is an extremely impressive number. That has led to him accumulating 405 yards on just 41 carries, a number evaluators are certainly monitoring as he progresses to the next level.
Mason Hayes
Mason Hayes
A former quarterback, Hayes has transitioned into a receiver role for Kennedy Catholic in his senior year, and the results are paying off for him and his team. Through three games, he has accumulated an impressive 352 receiving yards and four touchdowns on nineteen receptions, showcasing his ability to put up big numbers with a smaller target share. His yards per reception number of 18.6 will surely turn some heads, as will his 117.7 yards per game average.
Drake Grandberry
Drake Grandberry
Grandberry is a do-it-all threat for the Abes, playing extremely well on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. On offense, he has been the top target for quarterback Gabarri Johnson Gabarri Johnson 6’2″ | 200 lbs | QB Lincoln | 2023 State WA , accumulating 285 yards and three touchdowns on ten receptions. On the defensive end, he has been just as impressive, racking up seven tackles, a pass defensed, and an interception in his first three games. When the ball is going his way, Grandberry is a threat to make something happen on every play.
