In this article, we take a look at three playmakers and two offensive linemen who will undoubtedly make an impact at the next level.
RB Jay Cox – 5’10″ 190 / Highland Park HS — @Jay_Cox8
Through 4 games: 500+ yards and 9 touchdowns
Don’t blink. Jay will be the perfect change of pace back at the next level. Above-average acceleration and a knack for making defenders miss in the open field make him a must-see for smaller programs looking for a difference maker in the backfield. An added bonus is that he’s a gifted return man, has soft hands as a receiver, and is a willing pass protector in the throw game. He’ll be back in action this week vs Dallas Jesuit. Must-see athlete!

CB Simon Jackson V – 5’9″ 170 / Grand Prairie HS — @SimonJacksonV1
He’s a bit undersized, but will surely find a role as a nickel corner in college. What I like about Jackson is, quite simply, how he plays the football while it’s in the air. What he lacks in size, he certainly makes up for with passion for the game. Relentless on 50/50 balls and willing to come downhill and make a tackle on the perimeter, he’s got a chance to develop into a quality starter for a smaller program.
Currently has a Division 2 offer from East Central.
S Miles Johnson – 6’2″ 190 / Grand Prairie HS — @Miles11Johnson
Johnson is a center-fielder who can also play some nickel corner. He stays low in his backpedal, and his fluid hips make for a smooth transition when running with receivers on go routes. Additionally, he’s a PBU machine when lined up at free safety. If he can find a way to turn those breakups into interceptions, he has a chance to become an FCS-caliber recruit. If you’re in the market for a high upside safety, take a trip out to Grand Prairie.
Currently has a Division 2 offer from Arkansas-Monticello.
OT Deryck Phillip – 6’3″ 260 / Fort Bend Hightower HS — @PhillipDeryck
Phillip has all the stuff to become a starter at the next level – including raw athleticism. He does need some time to develop and come into his own, as he tends to stand straight up in pass protection. He shows nice instincts as a puller in space and as a run blocker, and if you’re a small program that wants a developmental offensive tackle, Phillip has the tools to blossom into a really good one over time.

OT Lawson Petty – 6’4″ 285 / Highland Park HS — @LawsonPetty1
Petty plays mean – and that’s what you want from an offensive lineman. He’s comfortable in space, gets a nice punch at the point of attack, and completely overpowers his guy when he gets locked in. He could bend at the knees more consistently in pass pro, and I’m sure that refinement will come at the next level, but he is without a doubt going to find a Division 1 home.
Currently has an offer from SMU.
