Continue ReadingWe’re at the midway point of the 2022 season, with the OK-Green being one of the most competitive and talented leagues in the state. It’s been quite the 5-week stretch, as many of our OK-Green teams have faced top competition both in and out of the OK conference. This article will look back on what’s already happened in the Green and preview what’s to come!
Current Standings “()” = League Record
Mona Shores 4-1 (3-0) – The Sailors have had an easy schedule so far, but they nearly defeated Rockford during week 2. It’s a touch road ahead with Zeeland West, Muskegon, and Reeths-Puffer to close out the season. Considering Mona Shores’ history and current talent, I believe Mona Shores will end up winning this league.
Zeeland West 5-0 (3-0) – The Dux have been one of the biggest surprises of the season. We knew they would be good, but not a 20-point lead over Muskegon type good. Of course, West only won by two points, but still, this team is legit and could easily win the OK-Green. In fact, I would be shocked if Mona Shores or Zeeland West didn’t win this league.
Muskegon 3-2 (2-1) – It’s been a season of high highs and low lows for Muskegon. They have a few good wins against Reeths-Puffer and East Kentwood, with a few tough losses against Zeeland West and De La Salle. Granted, De La Salle may be the best team in the state, and West is an undefeated rival, but I still expected this team to gel more than they have. The good news for Muskegon is that they’re making the playoffs unless some major upsets happen, and they can still win out and potentially win the OK-Green.
Reeths-Puffer 4-1 (2-1) – The Rockets have been another heavily impressive team that has “closed the gap” pretty dang well. They haven’t had the strength of schedule that Muskegon’s had, but they have good wins against Union (OT) and Grand Haven, with a 1-possession loss to Muskegon. If I had to guess, Reeths-Puffer will be a playoff team at 6-3 by the end of the season.
GR Union 3-2 (1-2) – Union was 1 play away from being 4-1 and 2-1 in the conference. Despite a beatdown against Mona Shores and an overtime loss to Reeths-Puffer, Union has looked solid this season. It’s without a doubt another building block season for Union, but they still have a great shot at the playoffs, which would be a massive accomplishment for this program that hadn’t made the postseason since before I was born.
Zeeland East 1-4 (1-2) – It’s been a struggle for Zeeland East these past few years. The Chix only win isn’t even a win, as Holland forfeited the matchup before it was played. I don’t see this team winning more than 2 games this season.
Wyoming 0-5 (0-3) – Another rough year for Wyoming, and it’s a bummer. They haven’t had a close game all season, and there’s little hope for any wins moving forward. Let’s hope Wyoming makes a resurgence soon.
Holland 0-5 (0-3) – The Dutch forfeited their season after not having enough players to field a Varsity team. It’s a bummer, to say the least, but the Holland Faithful can still watch their JV team and look forward to next season!
Biggest second-half matchups

Union vs. Muskegon
RP lost to Muskegon by 1 possession, and Union lost to RP in overtime. It may not seem like it on paper, but I believe Union vs. Muskegon could be a classic. If Union wins, that will almost guarantee them a playoff spot with their remaining schedule, while if Muskegon wins, they’ll still be in contention for the OK-Green and it should help their playoff seeding.

Mona Shores vs. Zeeland West
As things stand now, this would be the matchup the decides the OK-Green. The Dux had an outstanding performance against Muskegon last weekend, and they’re looking like the only team that can defeat Mona Shores right now. Star this game on your calender.

Muskegon vs. Mona Shores
A classic rivalry, this is another matchup that could potentially decide the OK-Green. By the time this game rolls around, one or both of these teams could still be in contention to win the Green, while both will have already punched their ticket to the postseason. Should be a great one.
