Continue ReadingFriday night in Tempe we will get to see two underrated quarterbacks take the stage against each other. Sunnyslope travels to face the Aztecs of Corona del Sol as both teams try and improve off their 2-1 records. Corona coming off a 21-13 win over Perry and have looked decent on both sides of the ball, especially defense. Besides the game against Chandler, they are holding their opponents to less than 12 points a game. Sunnyslope coming off a high scoring lose to Higley, losing 57-35. Their offense looks prolific, and if it wasn’t for Jamar Malone (#2 ranked in C/O 2025) Sunnyslope could be 3-0. Besides that, I am looking forward to seeing the 2 studs manning the QB position.
Connor Ackerley Connor Ackerley 6'1" | 175 lbs | QB Corona Del Sol | 2024 State AZ , Corona del Sol, 2024
Connor Ackerley Connor Ackerley 6'1" | 175 lbs | QB Corona Del Sol | 2024 State AZ , class of 2024, has been very good for the Aztecs this season so far. Completing 68% of his passes, throwing 4 TDs and 3 INTs. He is averaging over 12 yards a completion which means he is seeing the field and making the right reads. He takes what the defense gives him as well which is awesome to see a young player do. He doesn’t force it most of the time, takes a short check down and lets his athletes get yards after the catch. He also is a mobile quarterback and can gain yards with his feet if he needs to. Rolls out and is accurate outside the pocket. Look for Ackerley to be a dual threat weapon this Friday and carry the offense for the majority of the night.
Luke Moga Luke Moga 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Sunnyslope | 2024 State AZ , Sunnyslope, 2024
Luke Moga Luke Moga 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Sunnyslope | 2024 State AZ is an athlete. 6’3″ 190 lbs quarterback who can run a 4.5 40 yard dash and makes any throw in any circumstance. Rolls both ways great and is very accurate. The first throw on this season’s highlight is a rollout left and drops it in the bucket right over the backer’s head for a score, and the second is a seam route to the second receiver with ZIP on the ball for a long TD. After the two plays I said “Wow” out loud and stopped watching there. All I need to see. Averaging 244 yards a game, has 10 TDs and 4 INTs on the season, Sunnyslope puts points up in bunches. High flying offense with weapons around Moga, and all he needs is a small window and he will get you the ball. Love Moga’s game and can’t wait to see this matchup against a very stout Aztec defense.
Friday night has a lot of great matchups across the state of Arizona, but I think this one will be the most interesting one to watch in regard to the QB matchup and how they fare against each other.
