As we head into a new season of youth and middle school football around the country, below is a look at some class of 2027 prospects (athletes beginning their eighth-grade school year) that have come across my desk. As football recruiting and evaluating continues to change, the eighth-grade season is becoming a pivotal time for young athletes to garner early attention from Universities. Here’s a look at some prospects that are on the trajectory to be playing a high level of football for years to come.
A 6-foot-2, 170-pound Wide Receiver that can go and get the ball, Bogany is a dangerous downfield weapon. Primarily lining up as an X or a Z Wide Receiver, Bogany is your traditional tall, long prospect that can be used to shred defenses downfield. Doesn’t show to be a real burner on film, but picks up enough speed on vertical routes that allows him to create separation. Truly a quarterback’s best friend, the signal caller just has to throw it up near him and he’ll be able to make a play on the ball due to his larger catch radius. Can also be put in motion and pick up yards on End-Around’s. Defensively, he lines up at Safety and does a good job of playing Centerfield to disrupt passes down the middle of the field. I certainly feel he projects to become an FBS level player down the line.
Peyton is the younger brother of 6-foot-7, 320-pound Offensive Tackle and No.3 prospect in Oregon for the class of 2025, Jace Eveland. The “little” Eveland brother is starting his eighth-grade season and is already standing 6-foot-4 and 250-pounds. Exactly like his brother, they both carry the weight very well and at times look more like Centers/Power Forwards than Offensive Linemen. There is a ton of potential with Eveland based off his size alone but he isn’t just a big body…he can play too. Is pretty athletic given his size and youth. Should grow into a pretty well-recruited Offensive Tackle prospect as he moves towards high school. Getting into a high school weight room should do him well as overall strength must improve, but that almost certainly will come with maturity and growth.
Hovering right around the 5-foot-11/6-foot mark and weighing 150-pounds, Crumel is a prospect to get excited about in North Carolina. Hailing from Knightdale, which is about 40 minutes from Durham, he’s sitting in the heart of a very fertile ACC recruiting ground and has already visited North Carolina State. Saw him go live this summer for the first time, as he was a member of team North Carolina in the Future Stars Game. Came out and competed hard every day on both sides of the ball. Long term I think he’s going to be a very good Safety on defense but also wouldn’t be shocked if he shines as a Wide Receiver as well. Just a natural pass catcher who uses his hands at an advanced level. Plays for the NC Elite Darkhorse program, one of the most competitive travel teams in the region.
Highlights
A very good looking Quarterback prospect with natural ability, Semm appears to be the top 2027 signal caller I’ve seen in Nebraska at this point. From footwork to weight shifting in his drop to his release and follow through, Semm is extremely polished from a fundamentals standpoint. Plays for the Soldier Patriots, one of the better travel football programs in the state. Standing 5-foot-11 and 155 pounds, he has already visited and camped on campus with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Was a guest at their Spring Game this past April. Also a standout baseball player and is a member of the Lincoln Sox program.
It seems like every year the Brandon Bulldogs Middle School program is turning out players in Mississippi to know very early. Last year it was Preston Ashley, an athlete who was selected to the Class of 2026 Prep Redzone Next National Watch List, who currently holds an offer from Mississippi State. This year, in the class of 2027, Ford Jr. is one of the Defensive Back’s to know early. Passes the eye test right way with a great build and long limbs. Camped at Ole Miss the summer and despite being one of the younger prospects there, didn’t look out of place at all. Between Ford Jr. and Logan Drummond, the duo is a scary one-two punch for the class of 2027 at Brandon.
The nephew of former All-Pro, Super Bowl Champion and now popular NFL Analyst on ESPN Ryan Clark, Montague Jr. is a standout right now. This year, as an eighth-grader he’s getting it done on the Jayvee and 8th grade teams for St. Augustine. The Purple Knights are a traditional powerhouse in Louisiana High School Football and currently sit ranked No. 14 in the state. He’s a confident player at Corner and is one of the more complete players in the class at the position. Can play off the man and run with most receivers but also comes up and hits on shorter passes or screen plays. Very active on the camp and 7-on-7 scene as well. Expect him to get some early college camp invites this off-season as his recruiting begins to blossom.
Another bigger, taller, longer Wide Receiver Williams is built very similar to Landon Bogany, who is listed about. Williams is a 6-foot-2, 150-pound prospect that gets it done both individually and as contributing member of whatever team he’s on. He enters this season as a three-time Snoop Youth Football League (SYF) champion and a youth football career record of 62-4 over the past four years. This year he’s again playing for the LA Rampage, a team he has helped build into a household name on the national scene. Finished last year with 45 receptions for 700 yards and 10 touchdowns. He’s Randy-moss like on offense with his ability to stretch the field vertically with long strides and obvious size advantage. Defensively he has some “big corner” ability because he length just engulfs Wide Receivers trying to get open. Expect all the Trinity League schools to be lining up for his services.
