Home to some of the best programs and players in the country, Gwinnett County is always producing talent, and there’s plenty of running backs in the country who are having breakout seasons in 2022.
Who are they? Let’s take a look…
It’s hard to find another 2024 back in Georgia having a year like Spain. Running against tough 7A defenses on a weekly basis, Spain has been one of the most productive backs not only in Gwinnett County, but across the state through the first five games of the season. He’s gotten better and better each week and has shown through his first five games that he’s capable of playing at the next level. Spain got his sophomore season started with a bang, rushing for an impressive 144 yards and two touchdowns in his season-opening win against Johns Creek. He then had 191 yards against Shiloh, 194 yards against North Gwinnett, and then had a massive game last week against St. Pius, rushing for 267 yards. He’s found the end-zone four times so far this year and averaging just under 200 yards per game. If you’re looking for a breakout back in Georgia, Spain has to be on the short list.
Solomon Leslie – Loganville
A tough, physical back with plenty of size at 6-foot-1 225-pounds, Leslie is running through tackles left and right this year. He’s a powerful back who runs well, and he’s lighting up the stat sheet so far this season. He’s rushed for over 100 yards in four of his first five games this season and is averaging 150 yards per game so far as a senior. He might not play at a big-time program, but he’s been outstanding and should see opportunities to play at the next level due to his size and productivity. He’s had games of 169 yards, 161 yards, 210 yards, 85 yards, and 123 yards. He’s also found the end-zone 8 times so far this season, making him one of the more productive 2023 backs in the area.
Jason Jackson Jason Jackson 5'10" | 175 lbs | RB Central Gwinnett | 2024 State GA – Central Gwinnett
One of the more underrated backs in Gwinnett County for the last year or two, Jackson is a touchdown machine who found the end-zone five times in last weekend’s win over Miller Grove. He’s quick, shifty, and knows how to bust a big gain if given space to run. He’s an eexcellent runner on the edge and can out-run slower defenders for long runs. He’s been extremely productive this year and has shown D1 ability, rushing for just under 10 yards per carry so far this season. He’s helped lead Central Gwinnett to a strong 5-0 start to the season and he doesn’t appear to be slowing down. He’s a slasher with great vision who should be tough to handle all season as a junior. So far this season, Jackson has rushed 39 times for 381 yards and 10 touchdowns. He’s without a doubt one of the top backs not only in the 2024 class but in Gwinnett County as well.
Julian Walters – North Gwinnett
A new 2024 back to know in Gwinnett County, Walters is doing his best to bring North Gwinnett back to their winning ways. A quick back with burst, Walters has been consistent all season so far, averaging over 94 yards per game through his first five games. He’s also averaging an impressive six yards per carry. As the lead back for the Bulldogs, Walters has rushed for 472 yards so far with two touchdowns. He’s been steady, reliable, and should see more opportunities to have big games as the season moves along. He’s been fun to watch so far as a junior and has a very bright future ahead of him.
