Conference games are well underway, and things are starting to take shape as far as playoff clinches. With the high stakes have come some elite numbers and performance on the offensive side of the ball. We have 10 of those monster nights right here! Enjoy checking them out, and watch the film for yourself!
Stats: 5/7, 115 Yards, 2 TDs, 4 Carries, 46 YardsrnThe 6′ 180 lbs junior is an athlete that can do several different things for his HS team, as well as a next level team. He plays QB and DB for Brookfield East. His offensive work from Week 6 is what our focus is on today. Because of his ATH ability, Joseph has the speed that makes him a dangerous dual threat that forces defenses to not only cover tight, but also worry about containing him to the pocket. Cheatam’s natural athleticism, and smooth movement goes right into a natural throwing motion. Joseph makes a lot of what he does seem easy because of that natural, easy athleticism. I’m excited for his development on both sides of the ball over the next year.
Highlights
Stats: 17 Carries, 102 Yards, 1 TDrnThe 5’11” 215 lbs junior RB/LB had a strong performance at FB for Waterford in Week 6. The compact athlete fits the role well in Waterford’s offense. He relies on power, which perfectly fits the downhill, north- south running needed for the position. Carson is a decisive runner who can make subtle lateral shifts in the hole, but looks like he prefers to lower his shoulder and gain the tough yards. He plays FB like he plays LB. Downhill, aggressive, and hard hitting. I do project him best as an LB at the next level, but I like to see the same traits show up on offense.
Gavin Shepard
Gavin Shepard
Stats: 18 Carries, 157 Yards, 2 TDsrnThis is a name that will need to be remembered over the next few seasons. Gavin scored when I was in attendance for his game earlier this season, and it looks like he is continuing his strong sophomore campaign. A vast majority of his highlights this week were thanks to him ability to accelerate and maintain his top speed in the open field. He was given some massive running lanes, and with his speed he was able to gain a lot of yards before contact. Gavin also was patient when he needed to be so his blocks could develop when the lanes weren’t as open. Similar to when I watched him live, Shepard has surprisingly contact balance. He bounces off hits, and keeps his legs churning so that he can power through for yards after contact. He used that on multiple highlights this week. Definitely an underclassman I’ll be adding to the rankings after the season.
Landon Fendt
Landon Fendt
Stats: 6 Receptions, 133 Yards, 2 TDsrnThe 5’10” 150 lbs junior is undersized, but he was a big play maker in Week 6. The WR has the speed to take the op off the defense. He simply ran by everyone for the first TD in his highlights. Landon also made an impressive catch in traffic against a double team. He went up and got it at the high point despite not being the biggest. The concentration he demonstrated on many of his catches this week is impressive. The hand eye coordination was next level. Another athlete I need to get in the rankings after the season.
Stats: 26/37, 445 Yards, 5 TDsrnWhat a performance by the senior QB! Fogel led Turner into a showdown with Lakeside Lutheran. Turner came up short, but not from a lack of offensive output. Sean led the offense up and down the field. The senior has light, quick footwork that allows him to get through his drop, and release the ball with a quick snap release. Fogel is able to get a solid level of velocity on the ball even while attacking down the field. The highlights form the week are filled up with decisive decisions, accurate passes, and an understanding of when he needs to use touch and placement or velocity on his passes. The senior holds a D3 offer. Check him out.
Highlights
Stats: 12 Receptions, 255 Yards, 4 TDsrnThe man on the receiving end of a lot of the passes from Fogel was Tyler. The 6’3″ WR was open nonstop Friday night. We didn’t get many looks at the route running, but the big target always had gaps of separation when the ball got to him. That separation makes the QB’s job easier. Sutherland fits the mold of a possession style receiver. The type of athlete who doesn’t have elite athleticism, yet always has a knack for being open. Tyler also has the size to be a redzone threat, and a problem to tackle one on one in the open field. The senior doesn’t seem to hold an offer, yet. He’s worth a look.
Trevor Asher
Trevor Asher
Stats: 300 Rushing Yards, 3 TDsrnWhat a game for the state’s leading rusher! Asher needed all 300 yards as Elmwood pulled off the 24-21 victory over Boyceville. The 5’11” RB demonstrated his vision this week. He was able to repeatedly find the hole, locate cut back opportunities, and see his blocks. In the open field, Trevor is a long strider. That leads to deceptive speed. Once he gets to the open field you don’t see the RB get aught. Trevor runs well through arm tackles. He runs with good knee drive which helps prevent him from being tripped up. The super productive senior holds an offer from UW- River Falls.
Stats: 307 Yards, 4 TDsrnAnother super productive passer was the Watertown junior. The athlete has been picking up interest on the recruiting trail. He was at a Gophers game day a few weeks ago. He has also heard from several FCS programs. The lefty is an undersized QB, but you can’t ignore the arm talent. Reece is able to zip the ball into tight windows thanks to impressive arm strength. The ball jumps out of his hand well. He also has very light feet that allow him to get through his drop, and move in the pocket. His accuracy on top of the arm strength tells me he is well on his way to being a next level signal caller. I expect a solid rise in the rankings during the next update.
Highlights
Stats: 15 Carries, 162 Yards, 2 TDsrnThis is my first time looking into the Mauston RB. The 6’1″ 185 lbs senior is an upright runner. He has the speed to be able to get outside contain and break off big runs down the sideline. When he wasn’t beating the defense to the edge, Garron demonstrated the vision to find the seam to daylight. It looks like he has solid natural instincts for the position. Garron runs with some physicality when he needs to. He can run through the arm tackle attempts, and that same power and toughness shows up in his tackling on defense. The potential is there for him to become a rangy LB also. Definitely some next level talent here. Keep tabs on Brandt going forward. I will be adding him to the rankings after the season.
Stats: 187 Yards, 2 TDsrnThis was a big time conference matchup as Oak Creek took on Franklin. Jackson, and Oak Creek, took control from the start. The 6′ 185 lbs RB put out impressive film. He was a one cut runner who saw the field well, and trusted his blocks. He set up those blocks very well, and turned many into big gains before contact. Phelps was so decisive in his cuts. When he saw where he was supposed to attack or an opening he went fro it without hesitation. Seeing him run with confidence is exciting to watch. He also showed off some power as he ran over a defender for his first TD of the highlights. It seemed like there was always arms around his legs, but his leg drive allowed him to run straight through them without stumbling. The jump in his play from a year ago is exciting to see. The junior has an exciting future ahead of him.
