For every week I plan out adding 2 reports of players to watch for in their upcoming Friday games and possibly adding a weekend breakdown of performances after Friday’s games. Kentucky continues to grow as a high school football powerhouse, and so does the abundance of star performances from players across the state. Today I will be listing 5 players to watch for this week who have had recent success on the football field.
Cade Sullivan Cade Sullivan 5'9" | 170 lbs | ATH Madison Southern | 2023 State KY ATH | 5-9,165lbs. Class of 2023 | Madison Southern High School, KY | Last Week’s Tape: | Junior Season Tape:
Upcoming Game: Friday September 23rd against Collins High School, Shelbyville KY (Record: 3-1)
Cade had a great performance this past Friday playing on both sides of the football. Despite a tough loss, Cade put up 200+ total yards, 1 touchdown, and 5 tackles defensively for the Madison Southern Eagles. Cade can be regarded as an extremely speedy back who can quickly accelerate past opposing defenders when finding a running gap. He is also known to be the team’s star kick returner, often returning kickoffs for large gains and even touchdowns. His style of running with the football is excellent as he uses his acceleration and patience to wait for a running gap to open up. Those traits are important to have when playing competitively at the college level. Cade also uses his speed to get across the field as a safety, racking up tackles defensively.
Cooper Stone Cooper Stone QB Bethlehem | 2023 State KY QB | | 6-2,190lbs. Class of 2023 | Bethlehem High School, KY | 2021 Season Tape:
Upcoming Game: Friday September 30th against Crittenden County High School, Marion KY (Record: 2-2)
Past Analysis: Cooper adds consistency and reliance when he is your quarterback. The 6-2 upcoming senior is a solid pocket passer that maintains accurate throws that get the football down the field onto enemy territory. His footwork out of the pocket works to quickly adjust to a blitz and still make a quick and accurate throw to his receiver. Although he has shown great flashes of throwing the football on the run, his talent lies when he is throwing from the pocket. I believe any school should look into Cooper when looking for a quarterback that can be reliable with throwing the football and getting the ball down the field. However, Cooper still has one year left of high school ball to further enhance his game so I would wait to see what he truly holds in the tank after this fall season.
Current Season: As of the first 5 games of the season, Cooper has put out elite numbers throwing for over 1,300 passing yards and 15 passing touchdowns. The deep ball has been working like a charm for Cooper, completing numerous passing touchdowns over 30+ yards.
Keiran Stockton Keiran Stockton 6'2" | 230 lbs | RB Glasgow | 2023 State KY RB | 6-2, 230lbs. Class of 2023 | Glasgow High School, KY | Midseason Tape:
Upcoming Game: Friday September 23rd against Greenwood High School, KY (Record: 4-1)
Keiran’s most recent game was a stellar performance running the ball against Hart County High school, putting up 16 carries for 229 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns. The young man is like a smaller Derrick Henry but with the same strength and quicker acceleration than the Titan running back. Keiran can bust through the middle of the defensive line with little issue and can break free onto an open field with his speed. Even with a closed running gap, Keiran improvises using his brute strength to bust open a running gap. I expect Keiran to continue racking up crazy numbers as the lead back for Glasgow.
Chandler Godby Chandler Godby 5'9" | 170 lbs | WR Pulaski County | 2023 State KY WR | 5-9, 170lbs. Class of 2023 | Pulaski County High School, KY | Midseason Tape:
Upcoming Game: Friday September 23rd against Whitley County High School, KY (Record: 1-3)
Past Analysis: Chandler’s route running is extremely unique compared to other top receivers in Kentucky. Not only just attempting to break free of opposing defensive backs to receive the ball like most receivers, but Chandler has also learned how to gain leverage off good coverage and still come up with the football. His footwork and positioning to receive the football are top-notch which helped him gain many receptions and lead the entire state in receiving yards and touchdowns. The senior also has a 4.59 40-yard dash which helps him dust past the defensive backs on routes. Although not the tallest receiver like the other prospects in the state, Chandler uses his IQ and high leaping ability to catch difficult passes that most receivers his size would have zero chance at catching. His talent should not be slept on and I expect college coaches to finally recognize his potential once his senior season ends.
Current Season: I and the entire PrepRedzone Kentucky staff are extremely high on Chandler Godby Chandler Godby 5'9" | 170 lbs | WR Pulaski County | 2023 State KY . Even before the season, we expected him to continue progressing, and not only has he done that but further exceeded our expectations. The young man has had a crazy start to his 2022 fall season for Pulaski County, racking up 44 receptions for 736 receiving yards & 10 touchdowns in only 5 games played.
Christian Combs Christian Combs QB Apollo | 2023 State KY QB | 6-0, 175lbs. Class of 2023 | Apollo High School, KY | Beginning Season Tape:
Upcoming Game: Friday September 23rd against McCracken County High School, KY (Record: 1-4)
Christian put out an unbelievable all-around performance last Friday against Meade County High School. The senior’s stats in that game were 18 completions for 354 passing yards & 4 passing touchdowns AND 17 carries for 107 rushing yards & 3 rushing touchdowns. Christian was all over the place for Apollo which helped them edge out Meade County in an absolute shootout 55-54. What I like about Christian is his amazing running skills with the football, especially once he is out of the pocket. If he needs to escape pressure, he simply finds a receiver and throws an accurate toss to them while on the run. Along with that, he can use his electric speed to escape the pressure and run with the football himself, tackling big yardage for the offense. Christian is a valuable dual-threat quarterback that will always give an opposing defense a headache when playing him.
