The ninth week of the season provided us yet another week full of outstanding performances. While it was hard to narrow down, these are the most impressive performances in the state of Kentucky that stood out in week nine.
Shaun Boykins Shaun Boykins 6’2″ | 185 lbs | WR North Hardin | 2024 State KY is a player that is high on our radar at Prep Redzone KY as he is our second ranked receiver and seventh overall player in the class of 2024. Boykins continued to impress this past Friday against Barren County, catching seven passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns. He showed that he is very dangerous with the ball in his hands, using his speed and elusiveness in the open field to turn screen passes into big gains. Boykins also showed great concentration with the ability to look the ball in over his shoulder in the deep passing game without breaking stride. He also posed as a threat out of the backfield as a ball carrier, running the ball three times for eight yards and two touchdowns. Boykins made an impact on defense as well, lining up at safety and coming away with an interception. Shaun currently holds offers from Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, Louisville, and Akron, and I only expect that list to grow as he is one of the most electric players in the state and is a true Power 5 level talent.
Another player that has been high on our radar at Prep Redzone KY for a while now is 2023 quarterback/athlete Kenyon Goodin Kenyon Goodin 6’3″ | 185 lbs | ATH Martha Layne Collins | 2023 State KY from Collins. Goodin continued his very impressive senior season this past Friday with a strong performance against a talented Woodford County team. While his team wasn’t able to pull away with a win, Goodin put on a show, rushing for 161 yards, throwing for 202 yards, and scoring four total touchdowns. As a passer, Goodin showed the ability to escape the pocket and keep his eyes down the field to make throws on the run. He also was able to use his speed to tuck the ball and pick up big gains on the ground when nothing was there in the passing game. His speed also helped him pose as a threat to make big plays on designed quarterback draws. Goodin also made an impact on defense, lining up at safety and even from an outside linebacker spot. He finished the game with seven tackles (five solo) and two interceptions. Kenyon currently holds offers from Eastern Kentucky, Charleston, and Army, and more should come as he is a clear candidate for Mr. Kentucky, has received a nice amount of college interest, and has the skill set to play at the Division I level.

Brach Rice Brach Rice 6’3″ | 220 lbs | LB Dixie Heights | 2024 State KY is a player that has stood out to me on the defensive side of the ball on numerous occasions this season. However, he shined in a new role on Friday. Due to an injury at the position, Brach was asked to step in and play quarterback and had quite a performance. Rice completed 11/18 passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns while running the ball 32 times for 247 yards and a touchdown. As a passer, Rice showed a strong arm with the ability to lead his receivers down the field. He also showed the ability to stand in the pocket and deliver throws while taking on contact. In the ground game, Dixie Heights utilized his strength, speed, and elusiveness as a ball carrier to use him on designed quarterback draws. Rice showed great contact balance in the open field with the ability to bounce off defenders without breaking stride. Brach doesn’t hold any offers at the moment but he is a name to watch as he has been receiving interest from multiple Division I programs and has the talent to be a difference maker at the next level.

Another big name in the bluegrass state that continued to impress this past Friday was LCA sophomore quarterback, Cutter Boley Cutter Boley 6’5″ | 200 lbs | QB Lexington Christian Academy | 2024 State KY . Boley led his team to a dominant 43-0 victory over Somerset, completing 36/57 passes for 507 yards and two touchdowns. He showed impressive accuracy with the ability to put a nice amount of zip on his passes to put the ball only where his receiver could catch it. Boley also continued to show off his cannon of an arm, leading his receivers down the field and hitting them in stride in the deep passing game. I also liked what I saw from a pocket mobility standpoint, showing the ability to move around in the pocket or escape the pocket to avoid pressure while keeping his eyes down the field to make throws on the run. Cutter holds a long list of Power 5 offers and I expect that list to continue to grow as he is a very special talent at quarterback that still has three years to continue to develop before college.
Next up on my list is Boley’s go-to target, Parker Chaney Parker Chaney 6’0″ | 180 lbs | ATH Lexington Christian Academy | 2024 State KY . While we have Chaney listed as a defensive back, he has made an impact on both sides of the ball this season and shined the brighest at receiver on Friday, catching 16 passes for 291 yards. Chaney showed great route running ability with smooth breaks in his routes which he used to create separation. He also showed the speed to pose as a threat in the deep passing game. After the catch, he was able to use his speed and elusiveness in the open field to pick up big gains. Chaney also showed the strength to run through tackles. He continued to play well on defense, showing the ability to mirror receivers in man coverage and also did a great job of coming downhill and making tackles in the open field. While Parker doesn’t currently hold any offers, I expect them to come soon as he has the skill set to play on either side of the ball at the next level and has been receiving interest from multiple Division I programs.

Kye Boyd Kye Boyd 5’10” | 200 lbs | RB North Hardin | 2023 State KY is another player that I’ve had high on my radar for a while and he continued to impress on Friday. Boyd had a dominant performance against Barren County, running the ball 23 times for 231 yards and two touchdowns. He showed impressive patience, letting his offensive linemen create running lanes. Once Boyd saw the lane open, he came downhill but also had the vision to find the cutback lane if necessary. Boyd showed the strength to run through tackles in the open field while also showing the speed to bounce to the outside and run away from the defense. Kye currently holds an offer from Judson University but I can see him picking up a few more before his senior season is over as he has been receiving a nice amount of college interest and has the talent to be a successful running back at the next level.

Another high-caliber running back that I’ve been very impressed with this season is junior Zah’Ron Washburn Zah’Ron Washburn 5’11” | 180 lbs | ATH DuPont Manual | 2024 KY from DuPont Manual. Washburn has been a huge part of Manual’s success this season and continued to shine this past Friday, running the ball 20 times for 236 yards and four touchdowns in a 28-19 win over Pleasure Ridge Park. He did a great job of exploding out of his stance and coming downhill in a hurry then running his feet through contact to gain as many yards as possible. Once he hit the open field, Washburn showed great contact balance with the ability to bounce off defenders without breaking stride and also showed the speed to run away from the defense. He also showed some reliability in the passing game, catching two passes for five yards. Zah’Ron currently holds an offer from Eastern Kentucky but I expect that list to expand tremendously as he is a true Division I talent at running back.
Charlie Noon Charlie Noon 6’2″ | 180 lbs | ATH Highlands | 2023 State KY has been one of the better all-purpose players in the state this season and continued to show that on Friday. Noon played a key role in Highland’s big win over Covington Catholic, snapping their nine-game losing streak against them. He finished the game with four catches for 68 yards and a touchdown while also running the ball seven times for 25 yards. As a receiver, he showed the speed to create separation in the deep passing game. He also showed great run after the catch ability, using his speed and elusiveness in the open field to turn short passes into big gains. While he did a solid job on offense, his biggest impact came on special teams. Noon finished the game with 160 kick return yards, including a huge touchdown return to give Highlands the lead. Charlie currently holds offers from Thomas More and Mount Saint Joseph but more college coaches should have him on their radars as he has the talent to be a true difference maker at the next level.
Sage Dawson Sage Dawson 5’11” | 150 lbs | ATH Boyle County | 2024 State KY has had quite a year at quarterback this season, keeping Boyle County towards the top of 4A. He continued to impress this past Friday, leading his team to a 36-0 victory over Anderson County. Dawson completed 22/29 passes for 346 yards and five touchdowns. Sage throws an impressive deep ball with nice touch, leading his receivers down the field. In the short/intermediate passing game, Dawson puts a great amount of zip on his passes, fitting the ball into tight windows where only his receivers can catch it. When nothing is there, Dawson uses his speed to tuck the ball and run away from the defense to make big plays on the ground. Sage currently holds an offer from Eastern Kentucky but I expect him to pick up more over the next two years as he is a versatile athlete that can play multiple positions and has been receiving a strong amount of college interest.
Cam O’Hara Cam O’Hara 6’2″ | 180 lbs | QB Cooper | 2026 State KY has truly grabbed my attention in his first season of high school football as the starting varsity quarterback for Cooper. He continued to impress on Friday, completing 11/16 passes for 336 yards and four touchdowns in a 54-0 blow out victory over Boone County. The first thing that stood out to me from Friday’s performance is his very impressive ball placement skills. O’Hara puts a great amount of touch on the ball and throws it where only his receiver has a chance to catch it. He also continued to show off his arm strength, with the ability to stretch the field in the deep passing game. I also liked that O’Hara showed the ability to keep his eyes down the field to make throws on the run, even when under pressure. While Cam doesn’t currently hold any offers, he will be a name to watch over the next few years as I believe that he has the potential to be a very high-caliber prospect by the time his senior year comes around.
