As we head into the end of the regular season, it is time to look at a few seniors who have stood out as valuable prospects in one of the more under-recruited positions in the state, many of whom are without offers.
This article will look closely at five senior defensive backs who deserve to be offered immediately.
Peyton Taylor
Peyton Taylor
Taylor is an electrifying athlete who is just as dangerous of a return man as he is a lockdown corner. He is a playmaker with excellent speed and athleticism, which appear to be integral to his ability to read and react. His explosiveness allows him to break on the quarterbacks throwing motion and make a play on the ball when playing in zone, and his techniques and physicality give him the upper hand when playing man. Taylor has offers from Chadron State and Western Colorado, but the outstanding corner has made his way onto the radars of some Division I programs that will want to offer him sooner rather than later.
Leafgreen is a physical safety who can play over the top and in the box. He has an unstoppable motor that allows him to fly around the field and make impactful plays. His willingness to come flying downhill and lay devastating hits to his opponents makes him a standout player. Leafgreen currently holds two D2 offers from Chadron State and CSU Pueblo, but his performance this season proves his recruitment value is rapidly rising.
Thome is a talented player with some of the best ball-hawking instincts in the state. His athleticism allows him to cover a wide range of the field, but he can predict, read, and react to what the offense is trying to do through the air, making him a dangerous opponent beat. He has a versatile set of skills that give him the capabilities to be a lockdown cornerback, making him a potential candidate for a nickel corner position. Thome has garnered some attention from a few collegiate programs, but he is a sleeper who has yet to receive his first offer.
Highlights
Gavin Bibik
Gavin Bibik
Bibik is a sleeper free safety who does a great at playing over the top of pass plays and coming downhill against the run. His size, physicality, and athleticism make him a perfect fit for defenses that face a variety of run-heavy and pass-heavy offenses. Playing on one of the toughest teams in the state has given him the needed experience to play at the D1 or D2 levels. Babik is still waiting for his first offer, making him an under-the-radar player who will become a steal for a program.
Lowther is an under-the-radar player who will end up being an absolute steal for a college program. He is a technically sound player who does a great job moving his feet, flipping his hips, closing the distance to the ball carrier, and securing the tackle. Lowther has yet to receive his first offer, but that is not for lack of outstanding performances. His skills and on-field abilities make him a sleeper who should be on the radars of every RMAC school in the state.
